2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor, V6 Spark Plug Replacement Info

Replacing the rear three spark plugs on the Endeavor's V6 engine can be a challenge. In order to help anyone wanting to do this, here's some pictures and info to help you.

Here's the intake manifold installed. The two arrows are pointing to the throttle unit, and the linking tube from the air filter.

Bothe of these pieces have to be removed. The throttle body has six 12mm bolts (two can be seen here). The rubber tube has a screw clamp at each end. Use a 10mm driver on these.

This for this entire project, you will need a 12mm and a 10mm wrench,  a 10mm and 12mm socket and driver (3/8" drive). A 5/8" spark plug socket, and an extension  6" or longer are needed to remove the spark plugs.
Manifold
In this picture, a view of the manifold from it's right side can be seen.  The throttle body has been removed, and it's mount with a partial screen on it is visible. Be careful not to break this.

The red arrow points to one of two 12mm bolts that need to be removed, the second isn't visible. This assembly holds a gas recirculation tube to the manifold.

Be careful removing it, there's a thin metal gasket that will fall off and get it's self lost in the nether regions of the tranny and transfer case.

On the other side of this is one of two 12mm bolts holding the manifold from the rear.

Here is a view of the engine without the manifold. You can see the three rear spark plug transformers on top of the valve cover.

The two red arrows point to the rear manifold supports, which will have 12mm bolts in them. The green arrow points to the gas recirculation tube pushed back out of the way.

The right rear manifold mount also has a solenoid activated valve mounted to it, making access that much more difficult.
no manifold
Here is my solution to the right rear manifold mount. After several tries to get the bolt back in during reassembly unsuccessfully, I grabbed my hacksaw and cut a piece out of the mount. Now it's a slot, and I can install the bolt, slide it into place, and then tighten it -- much easier than trying to install the bolt with the manifold in place. modified
This is a shot of the adapter that the gas return tube bolts up to. The short tube fits into the manifold.

Notice the black mark on the left portion of the flange. This matches a mark on the manifold -- from the factory.

This is a shot of the spark plug connector, and the integrated transformer. A three pin connector plugs into one side.  The transformer assembly is held in place with a 10mm bolt. xmf
