A club was formed in July, 1975, by Frances Hudson, Lillian Macres, and Ruth Treadway for the purpose of exchanging information on raising dairy goats. The first meeting was held July 12, 1975, at the home of Ruth Treadway with 12 dairy goat owners present. On October 18, 1975, the name Smoky Mountain Dairy Goat Association was chosen for the Club.
The purpose of this associatin is to promote goats in gerneral and dairy goats in particular. We strive for improvement both in the genetic quality and care of our animals. To accomplish this we serve as a clearing house for information so that each member's understanding of goats may be advanced. We serve as encouragement to one another in our goat raising endeavors and are unified and unselfish in service to our organization.
Membership dues are $10 per year and includes a subscription to SMDGA's newsletter, The Caprine Chronicle. Meetings are held once each month, weather permitting, except for September when we sponsor the Knoxville Tennessee Valley Fair's Open Dairy Goat Show in lieu of a meeting.SMDGA Membership Application
