(A History of Couples Only Accommodations & Alpine Lodge)

The desire of Chuck and Shari Toth is to give guests a feeling of relaxation, privacy and beauty.  So they have made Real Hot Tubs, as well as Jacuzzi Bath Tub Private Rooms (some with fireplaces) available year round for couples only.  These rooms include the use of a lovely large outdoor pool with beautiful views of Raccoon Mountain and Lookout Mountain.

These rooms are available at the Alpine Lodge, opened in 1978 just three years after Chuck and Shari arrived in Chattanooga to set up the first hang-gliding motel, which was operated for 17 years as Crystal Air Sport Motel.  As tourism took hold in Chattanooga, Chuck and Shari caught the bug and the motel was renamed Alpine Lodge at Raccoon Mountain.  Hang gliding has continued to flourish at two nearby mountains.

Within that first year, Shari got the idea of putting one Private Jacuzzi Room in at the motel.  It turned out to be the best move they ever made.  After taking a stain glass class, Chuck and Shari proceeded to fill this new room as well as six following Jacuzzi rooms and Jacuzzi Chalets with either pre-filled hot tubs or Jacuzzi bath tubs and their stained glass work.  Chuck added special touches with his excellent carpentry work.  Their combined creations produced a work of love.

Alpine Lodge features cozy cabin or cottage like rooms with front deck porches and carports.  There is a non-smokers studio Chalet available for couples only on a nightly rental basis.

The motel pool boasts a 30' Mermaid painted by a local artist and friend.  Shari's herb and lower gardens dot the landscape to blend in with the natural beauty of the mountain view at the back of the motel.  A professional Massage Therapist is on staff for guests' enjoyment.  You can book time with Ed Baham by calling 855-5589.

Come to a lovely valley in the mountains of Chattanooga by taking I-24 West to Exit 174, go north one mile.  We are at the entrance to Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campgrounds, on the left.  Please call 821-2546 for reservations.  We would like to remind you, weekday rates are usually cheaper than weekend rates on all rooms except during holiday weeks.

As it is the owners' wish to someday retire, the lodge is for sale.  It is located 12 minutes from downtown Chattanooga and with the tremendous growth of museums, restaurants and shopping malls, as well as natural wonders such as Raccoon Mountain Caverns, Rock City and Ruby Falls just 10 minutes away, guests return again and again.
