We are a no-kill, non-profit humane organization dedicated to rescuing the sick, injured, abused, abandoned and neglected animals of Fayette County.

Make a Difference… Volunteer!

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!  We have a LOT of things planned and need everyone's help. Please let me know what events or tasks that you can help with. The shelter is, once again, packed to capacity with rescues but we have so much going on that with your help we can get everything settled down quickly.

This Saturday, 09/23/06
We need volunteers for our regular adoption day this Saturday at Petsmart. Setup is at 9am, events run from 10am - 4pm.

Shelter Work Day, 09/24/06
We have some great changes planned for the yards at our shelter but we need some help to remodel them for maximum space for the dogs. We will be at the shelter at 1pm Sunday, 09/24/06, to start work on our plan. We need your help! We will be moving gates and fencing to make new yards and expand existing yards. Experience is not necessary... extra hands make a difference! The weather is nice so it is a great opportunity to come out and help and also spend time with the dogs before the weather turns cold. For planning purposes, please let me know if you can help.

Petsmart Wolfchase Grand Opening
Petsmart is opening a new store next to Target in Wolfchase the weekend of October 7th. We have been invited to participate in the grand opening, Friday - Sunday. We will need a lot of volunteers to cover the entire weekend. If you can assist, just let me know what day / shift you can help. Any hours between 9am (setup) to 4pm is greatly appreciated.

Garage Sale, 10/07/06
In addition to the Petsmart grand opening, we have another garage sale planned. Please start saving 'stuff' ... more details to come soon!

A Home for the Holidays
We are starting the work preparing for our large adoption and fundraising event on November 4th in Oakland in front of Kroger (H64 & H194). If you can help with the planning & preparation please let me know ASAP. The more help we have and the more we do early the less the burden on us all right before the event. This is a BIG event for us! If you live in Fayette County and have not volunteered much due to the distance to Petco / Petsmart or other events please consider signing up for this one!

If you are interested in volunteering please email Laurie at fayettefcar@hotmail.com.

Our Rescues

New Arrivals

Honestly, there are just too many to list but a few highlights... we got 4 dogs from one house in a cruelty case (charges to be filed this week). Stinger was the first one pulled but we went back and seized Chainy, Tugger & Shady. They had no food or water, ticks, fleas, chains around their necks, etc.

Hot Rod, a new momma dog and her 6 babies have joined us. The babies are almost 3 weeks old now and huge compared to momma. They are all doing beatifully.

We rescued 6 six-week old puppies and their mom, Shannon, in Rossville. Two of the puppies are blind, they were very skinny, ticks, fleas and had been eating corn from the fields. They are at my house and are doing incredibly.

Winnie (the Pooh) is a rottweiler mix puppy that has most of her hair missing from mange. She is the best puppy ever... she is also at my house (in the bathroom) and has only had one accident during the entire 8 days she has been here. And the can't even be 8 weeks old! Wish they were all so easy :)

We had 3 animals returned this week. Champ (one of Mookie's puppies) was returned after two years because they felt like they did not have time for him. Simon, one of the australian shepherd puppies was returned and we are waiting for someone to bring back Knox who the owners adopted from us over 3 years ago.

Smudge is Jack Russell Terrier mix who is healthy other than a broken pelvis. Soon as she heals up (4-6 weeks) she'll be ready for adoption.

Honestly, I'm sure there are more new animals but that gets you all kind of caught up. If you haven't been out to the shelter lately I recommend that you come visit... things have changed a lot lately!

Adoptions

We had 3 kittens adopted Saturday and 2 kittens adopted last Saturday. I wish we could get some dogs in new homes but at least this clears out our huge kitten population we have had for a while. I think we have 1 Russian blue, one of Slinky's kittens and 2 new kittens at the shelter right now.

Fostering

For various reasons a lot of our past fosters are not available right now but we have a LOT of puppies that could really use the extra TLC that a foster home brings. If you are available to foster 2 puppies, either from Shannon's litter or Hot Rod's (once they are weaned) please let me know. It makes a tremendous difference to get puppies right into a foster home and makes them so much more adoptable and well adjusted. Fostering makes a difference! If you are interested in learning what it means to foster for FCAR please contact Laurie at 901/262-4817.
