Make a Difference… Volunteer!

Pretty good weekend... we adopted out 4 of the australian shepherd puppies at Petsmart Saturday. We were also able to move 10 animals into foster homes which really makes life a LOT easier for the employees at the shelter and is so much better for the animals to be in a home environment. Thank you to all of our foster parents!

Wednesday
We have a ton of pictures to take, baths, playing, etc. If you can help Wednesday night from 530pm or whenever you can get there, let me know. We're usually there til 830pm. And if you can do fix it type stuff we would love some additional help fixing kennels, gates, doors, etc. There are a few men that have those never ending 'to do' lists thanks to us lovely ladies and they could use some help if you have some handyman skills.

Saturday
We could still use a couple more volunteers to help at the adoption event this Saturday. We've got 3 of our regulars going so if you haven't been to an adoption event before this would be a great opportunity to help as we'll have people there that can assist you throughout the day.

Web Updates
We list all of our pets on Petfinder.com for viewing by the public. There are also two other websites, PetArk.com and Pets911.com that have similar search functions to view listings of animals available for adoption. We need someone to update these other two search sites using instructions that I'll provide along with the information we have already posted on Petfinder.com. This needs to be done on a weekly basis. The initial setup would probably take a few hours but could be done over time. After that it would probably take about 1 hour per week to keep both sites updated. If you are interested in helping let me know. You can do this from home and just need Internet access.

Painting
We're trying to get some paint donated to paint the massive new dog house, existing shelter & new building. If you have any contacts for paint or painting supplies that we might be able to get donated please let me know. Once we have the supplies I'll let you all know when the "Painting Party" is going to be.

Shelter Secretary
We would like to staff our shelter with a volunteer from 12pm-4pm Monday - Friday to answer phones, process paperwork and perform various clerical and miscellaneous tasks. We still need a volunteer for Wednesdays and for fill in. If you are available and can commit to at least one day per week please let me know. Having a volunteer on site on a regular basis would help tremendously in keeping our shelter running smoothly.

Our Rescues

New Arrivals

We have a new 4 week old kitten that is currently in foster care.

**We are still busting to the seams full and are not taking any new animals unless they are from cruelty cases. **

Adoptions

Jenna, Dinah, Tristan & Simon were all adopted Saturday. All were australian shepherd puppies, 2 of the big ones and 2 of the younger ones.
 

Events

We need volunteers for our upcoming events. PLEASE... if you sign up for setup please get there NLT 9am. The hardest part of the day is setup and we have to have as much help as possible during that time.

07/15  Adoption Day at Petco Cordova (9am Setup to 4pm Teardown)

07/21 Adoption Day at Petsmart (2pm-7pm)

07/29 Adoption & Fundraiser at Funquest, Collierville (see below for details)

Don't forget Wednesday nights from 530pm-dark. We can use all the help we can get!

Funquest in Collierville, 07/29/06
We are planning an adoption day and fundraiser at Funquest in Collierville on July 29th from 10am - 4pm. We need assistance with the following:

• Passing out flyers to local businesses

• Making treats for the Bake Sale

• We need raffle prizes

• Setup Friday night 07/28/06

• Volunteers to assist at the event (raffle, bake sale & adoption area)

If you can volunteer or assist with the planning let me know.

Please check the schedule in the left border for all events click here to view our Volunteer Event Schedule. Let Laurie know which events you can help with. If you cannot make your scheduled event please let us know ahead of time so that we can find a replacement.

Fostering

Current Animals in Foster Care: 26

The additional information that we learn about a dog when it is in foster care (houstrained, does it like dogs or cats or kids, etc.) and the extra care and attention that the dogs receive makes them even more adoptable at our events. If you are interested in fostering, please let me know. All it requires on your part is love, a fenced in yard and transportation to the shelter for vet visits and adoption days. FCAR provides the food, crate, medical care, etc.  Although not for everyone, fostering can be one of the most rewarding things that you can offer of yourself. Let me know if you are interested in learning more about this program.
