Make a Difference… Volunteer!

No adoption event last weekend and things have been pretty slow with the holiday. I'll be out at the shelter tonight (Wednesday) if anyone wants to come out (530pm-dark)... we have an adoption event at Petsmart Saturday so we've got some dogs that could use some baths, plus all the puppies need medicated baths. Let me know if you can make it. And I'm out there every Wednesday night so mark your calendar for next week too!

Saturday
We could still use a couple more volunteers to help at the adoption event Saturday. We also need someone to bring the adoption materials back to the shelter from Petsmart (meet at Petsmart at 330pm). A car will work fine for this... it is just a large Rubbermaid container, donation boxes, towels, etc. If you can help let me know, otherwise we'll have to reduce the number of animals we take so that there is room in the van for it.

Volunteers
If you have volunteered with us much then you will notice that there are a few people that you see every single time that you come out... they are at every event, spend hours on shelter work at home and spend untold hours at the shelter. As I'm sure you can imagine, no matter how dedicated you are, this starts to take a toll on your family and personal life as well as on your body. If you are not already, please consider volunteering regularly, just one or two times a month. This will go a long way toward taking some of the burden off of these 'core' volunteers and makes a huge difference in the lives of the animals that we rescue.

Shelter Help
We are in need of some additional 'paid' help at the shelter. If you know anyone that is interested in a job cleaning kennels, bathing dogs, medicating dogs, etc. please have them contact Gina at the shelter at 901/854-2565. This is hard work and not for the faint of heart... the employee has to be dedicated, committed, flexible and willing to work in the hottest and the coldest weather.

Shelter Secretary
We would like to staff our shelter with a volunteer from 12pm-4pm Monday - Friday to answer phones, process paperwork and perform various clerical and miscellaneous tasks. We still need a volunteer for Wednesdays and for fill in. If you are available and can commit to at least one day per week please let me know. Having a volunteer on site on a regular basis would help tremendously in keeping our shelter running smoothly.

We need volunteers for our upcoming events. PLEASE... if you sign up for setup please get there NLT 9am. The hardest part of the day is setup and we have to have as much help as possible during that time.

Don't forget Wednesday nights from 530pm-dark. We can use all the help we can get!

Funquest in Collierville, 07/29/06
We are planning an adoption day and fundraiser at Funquest in Collierville on July 29th from 10am - 4pm. We need assistance with the following:

• Passing out flyers to local businesses

• Making treats for the Bake Sale

• We need raffle prizes

• Setup Friday night 07/28/06

• Volunters to assist at the event (raffle, bake sale & adoption area)

If you can volunteer or assist with the planning let me know.

Please check the schedule in the left border for all events click here to view our Volunteer Event Schedule. Let Laurie know which events you can help with. If you cannot make your scheduled event please let us know ahead of time so that we can find a replacement.

Fostering

The additional information that we learn about a dog when it is in foster care (houstrained, does it like dogs or cats or kids, etc.) and the extra care and attention that the dogs receive makes them even more adoptable at our events. If you are interested in fostering, please let me know. All it requires on your part is love, a fenced in yard and transportation to the shelter for vet visits and adoption days. FCAR provides the food, crate, medical care, etc.  Although not for everyone, fostering can be one of the most rewarding things that you can offer of yourself. Let me know if you are interested in learning more about this program.
