Make a Difference… Volunteer!
What a Week!
Thank you thank you thank you to all of our wonderful
volunteers for a GREAT week! We had volunteers helping at the
shelter both Wednesday and Thursday night which allowed us to
bathe almost all of the dogs that were scheduled to go to our
adoption event this weekend. A clean dog helps a lot when you
are showing them to potential adopters. We also got pictures
taken, dogs walked and brushed and a few other things done. Your
help is really making a difference in the animals...
And thanks to the
more than 20 volunteers that helped at our 3 day adoption event
at Petsmart this weekend. Total adoptions for the week = TEN!
What a great week right when we needed it most.
Animal Cruelty
Case - Belle, Fleta & Sweetie
Many of you may not be aware that one of the primary focuses
on FCAR is on the prevention of animal cruelty. We have 3
certified animal cruelty investigators that investigate
complaints across the county. The case against the owners of
Belle, Fleta & Sweetie is scheduled to go to court tomorrow.
These animals were originally being kept in a box out in the 90+
degree weather and even after repeated attempts to educate and
assist the owner we were unable to save Sweetie, one of the
puppies. We seized Belle & Fleta and will be attempting to gain
custody of these beautiful red bone coonhounds so that they can
be placed in loving homes. Please pray for these girls...
Concrete
A huge thanks to Connie for contacting a fellow church member
that works at Quikrete in Millington. They are donating a pallet
of 60lb bags of Quikrete to the shelter! And a huge thanks to
Marty & Mike for figuring out how to pick it up and transport it
to the shelter!
Wednesday
Nights - Fun & Fur at the Shelter!
Please let me know if you can help Wednesday night
this week at the shelter from 530pm (or whenever you can get
there after work) til dark. We don't have an adoption day this
weekend so we just need to do the medicated baths but the
primary focus will be just spending time with the dogs. We also
have some 'man' stuff that needs to be done. Ronnie plans on
coming out but his to do list is pretty long out there (don't
tell him... he freaks out if he knows I have a 'to do list' for
him) but if there is any other handy guy or gal that can fix
fences, gates, etc. please come on out. It's only one night a
week and it's really helping us keep on top of the shelter work.
Shelter Help
We are in need of some additional 'paid' help at the
shelter. If you know anyone that is interested in a job cleaning
kennels, bathing dogs, medicating dogs, etc. please have them
contact Gina at the shelter at 901/854-2565. This is hard
work and not for the faint of heart... the employee has to be
dedicated, committed, flexible and willing to work in the
hottest and the coldest weather.
Shelter
Secretary
We would like to staff our shelter with a volunteer from
12pm-4pm Monday - Friday to answer phones, process paperwork and
perform various clerical and miscellaneous tasks. If you
are available and can commit to at least one day per week please
let me know. Having a volunteer on site on a regular basis would
help tremendously in keeping our shelter running smoothly.
If you are
interested in volunteering please email Laurie at
fayettefcar@hotmail.com.
Our Rescues
New Arrivals
We have recently taken in 4 5-week
old kittens that are currently in foster care.
Adoptions
Jobe
(yellow lab) - He
is a single
dog at his new family's home. The man had a yellow lab 2 years
ago that died after having for 15 years or so and felt he was
ready for another. Should be very spoiled.
Satellite (boxer) -
She
went to a new family with a male boxer. They had their dog with
them at PetSmart and the two got along wonderfully.
The lady came back a few hours
later to buy some things for her and said they hadn't stopped
playing yet.
Black Jack (lab mix) -
He is one of Miss Piggy's pups and was adopted by a very nice
family. They have all kinds of pets and the dad complained that
they are all females - including his children!! He was very
excited to have another male in the house. He was looking at
Black Jack in his crate and he said, "You are going to be so
spoiled!" It was so sweet.
Cherokee (border collie mix) - A miracle
adoption! A man called the shelter and said he needed a
companion for his 8 month old Golden Retriever puppy. Yvette
told him to go to PetSmart where he immediately fell in love
with Cherokee. She was looking scared as usual (she began
pouting when Christy her foster mom left), but there was just
something about her. The man's wife and kids are out of town so
he will have 2 weeks alone with her to get her acclimated to her
new home. Huge thanks go to Christy, her foster mom, for taking
Cherokee into her home... what a difference your love made!
Ollie (beagle mix) - one of Pat's beagle
pups was adopted by someone that insisted that they see him
before our adoption day Friday. Just couldn't stand to think of
someone getting to adopt him before they saw him!
Candie (beagle mix) - another of Pat's
puppies... they drove down a day early from Murfreesboro just to
see her. The family has 3 girls that were VERY excited about the
new addition to their family. They already have 2 other dogs but
were interested in a smaller dog that could travel around with
them to soccer games, errands, etc.
Chiquita -
The man's dad had a
three-legged cat and decided that he wanted one too. They were a
young couple and they brought their toddler with them. It took
them about 2 seconds to decide on Chiquita. They were very
excited about her and when they came back to see us at Petsmart
the next day they said Chiquita and the kitten they recently
rescued were playing like crazy.
Boswell
(dachshund mix) - He was adopted by a nice family that was
actually first interested in Jobe. After deciding that Jobe was
too big they looked around a little bit and settled on my lil
Scooterberry. They have a nice backyard with a doggie door onto
a screened in porch and he has another dog and 2 cats to play
with.
Babe
(black lab mix) - Babe found a wonderful home with a family that
had adopted previously from us and recently lost their dog. She
is guaranteed to have a wonderful life with this family!
Ruby (australian
shepherd mix) - She went to a home with a family with 2 teenage
children and since she is still recovering from her bout with
mange, the new family even had Petsmart give her a bath before
she went home... should be a good home. |
