Make a Difference… Volunteer!
Dentals
We are getting ready to launch a new fundraising program to
raise money to pay for dentals for some of our older residents.
Since we are a no kill shelter and have been in operation since
1998 we do have some 'long time residents' that need to have
their teeth cleaned, x-rays, teeth extractions, etc. The cost is
approximately $150 per dog and we have 8 dogs that are due:
Sandy, Harriet, Diamond, Homer, Skittles, Buddy, Jenkins and
Seahawk. We will be putting ads in the newspaper trying to find
sponsors for each animals as well as a sponsorship form in our
next shelter newsletter that goes out in September. These
guys may never find homes outside the shelter, but they are
loved by our volunteers, have yards to run in and are well cared
for and we want to ensure that they have everything that they
need to live happy, healthy lives. If you have any suggestions
for other methods of raising money for this program or if you
know anyone that wants to sponsor one of these dogs, please let
me know.
Shelter Needs
We still are trying to get donations of the following items
which we use on a daily basis at the shelter:
Shelter Work
We need pavers (12 X 12 or larger) to fix areas in the
outside yards. We need a LOT of them. Or we need donated
concrete. If you have access to or know anybody willing to
donate pavers, concrete, fencing or fencing materials please let
me know. When it rains it becomes a mud bowl so we like to give
the animals a place to get out of the mud and also need to fix
the millions of places where everyone likes to dig.
Wednesday
Nights - Fun & Fur at the Shelter!
Please let me know if you can help Wednesday OR Thursday night
this week at the shelter from 530pm (or whenever you can get
there after work) til dark. We have had about 6 people come out
the past two Wednesdays and we have accomplished so much! This
last week Jim, Christy & Kristen bathed dogs, Cheryl made
adoption folders, Yvette updated medical histories and Ronnie &
Marty fixed some of the dog yards. This week we have more
bathing to do, pictures, clerical work & puppy playing. We could
use all the help we could get and it is such a rewarding way of
helping the animals.
3 Day Petsmart
Adoption Event
In an effort to find forever homes for more of our rescues
we will be holding a 3 day Adoption Event at Petsmart on
06/23-06/24. We would like to hold a 3 day event at least once a
month and we can only do so if we have enough volunteers.
Thank for your GREAT response!
We currently have enough volunteers for all shifts for all 3
days. WOW!
I received a few
responses on carrying the crates back on Sunday and am still
trying to figure out the best way. Right now we have cars and
small SUVs that can help but it really makes it easier if we
have a truck. If you can help let me know, otherwise I'll
contact those who responded and try to get 2-3 smaller vehicles
to carry them.
The
adoption event times are as follows:
-
Friday, 2pm-7pm
-
Saturday, 9am-4pm
-
Sunday, 9am-4pm
Shelter
Secretary
We would like to staff our shelter with a volunteer from
12pm-4pm Monday - Friday to answer phones, process paperwork and
perform various clerical and miscellaneous tasks. If you
are available and can commit to at least one day per week please
let me know. Having a volunteer on site on a regular basis would
help tremendously in keeping our shelter running smoothly.
If you are
interested in volunteering please email Laurie at
fayettefcar@hotmail.com.
Our Rescues
New Arrivals
We are very, very full and are unable
to take in ANY animals at this time so no new arrivals this
week.
Adoptions
Phoebe, one of Pat's beagle mix puppies was adopted Saturday by
a nice family with 2 children. They are VERY excited to have a
new dog.
Cassandra, one of the Australian
Shepherd puppies that was recently returned found a wonderful
home with a quiet couple that lives in an apartment. Even after
we told them how shy she was they were very excited to adopt her
and I think she will do well with them. The woman especially
seemed sweet as can be. They are going out of town but will come
play with her this Wednesday night and will pick her up
06/30/06.
We have a few good possibilities for
adoptions for Jobe, Babe, Candie & Jake... cross your fingers that we'll
hear back from them to finalize the adoptions! |
