Civil War Carvings

by

Gene Graham

I live near Stone's River Battlefield which is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The area here is rich in Civil War history. If you are a Civil War enthusiast then you know that a lot of major battles and minor skirmishes were fought in Tennessee. Although I am not what you would call a Civil War "buff", it does interest me some. Therefor, I decided to try my hand at carving a Confederate soldier. Hey, I'm from the south. Why would I carve a Yankee?

I carved my first Civil War soldier for the carving competition at the NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION show in Columbus, Ohio in 1997. I won a second place ribbon with it. I enjoy carving the Civil War pieces but I still prefer the American Indians.
