On Friday, July 6, 2001, Laura Simaitis, our technician and head of our adoption program tragically died in an automobile accident. Laura’s untimely death has caused a real shock within our staff and we all are grieving our loss. Laura had been at Family Veterinary Practice for over a year and was truly loved by staff, clients and pets alike. Laura was a kind, compassionate and fun loving person who drew people and pets to her because of her charismatic personality. One of Laura’s missions in life was to care for orphaned animals, especially kittens. Her passion was to see that these “seemingly forgotten” and discarded pets were given a chance to be healthy and to be placed in caring and protective homes. Laura had placed hundreds of orphaned kittens in homes across the mid-south that would certainly have met an untimely death. Her adoption center was appropriately called The Affection Connection. We would like to carry on Laura’s vision and thereby continuing her memory through the lives of God’s Special Creatures by renaming the adoption program, Laura’s Adoption Center. We are setting up a non-profit fund that would make it possible for this legacy to continue. This fund would provide veterinary care and adoption fees at no cost. All pets would receive any treatment, vaccinations and spay/neutering procedures at no cost. All recipients would receive a certificate stating that their new pet’s adoption was made possible because of Laura Simaitis and her vision for adopting healthy and orphaned pets. If you would like to contribute to Laura’s Adoption Program, please make out your check to: Laura’s Adoption Program. We will send you updates concerning the program and your name will be listed as donor to the program. Thank you for caring, The staff at Family Veterinary Practice.
