The Story of Steve.
The Steve Buscemi Biography.

The Beginning of an Independant Film Legend.

Steve Buscemi was born on the cold, wintery day of December 13, 1957 in Brooklyn NYC. Steve began to develope an interest in theater his senior year of high school. While working as an ice-cream man and being a fireman on the NYC fire dept. for four years, he tried the stand-up comedy scenes in local clubs. Eventually Steve gave it up, and moved to Manhattan. While studying at the Lee Strasburg Institute, Steve performed many miscellanous theatrical pieces in the area of downtown NYC. He also attended Nassau Community College, but only stayed for one semster. Finally Steve's talents caught the eye of the late Bill Sherwood. Steve got his big break when Sherwood cast him as a leading role in the powerfull and memorable movie, "Parting Glances" in 1986. Steve's career was off like a rocket, although he remains very underrated for his brilliance as an actor, producer, screenwriter and director. When you mention his name to the general public more often than not you will recieve the responce, "Who is that?"

Steve Buscemi and His Blossoming Career.
(He's on a roll!)

Steve Buscemi's name in the independant film industry is large and widely known. Unfortuately, in the rest of the world, his name is somewhat unknown. However, once people have truely discovered Steve for the first time, they never seem to forget him. Most people find him to be rather weasely looking, others identify him as 'that funny-looking little guy'. Some of us even find him to be quite sexy, for what reason we can't really pin-point it, he just is in a different sort of way. Another way that is recognizable for him is the way he portrays his charactors. He can play his roles in a way that no one else can. He is very unique. Steve can play a vicious charactor with a very disturbing past (like he did as Garland Greene in "Con-Air") and yet still manage to capture the sympathies of the audience. While watching "Con-Air" I myself thought that he was not such a horrible person. The way he smiles at Nicholas Cage and the way he makes friends with the grubby little girl in the trailor park shows me that he has a quiet, sweet and sensitive side. In "The Wedding Singer" he entertained audiences while staggering around drunk on stage at his brother's wedding. In "Fargo" he tried to be a tough guy, but you could tell that he didn't want any blood shed. His reactions to his associate's bold move proves that. In spite of his feelings, he did kill in order to save himself. "Trees Lounge" was a very well thought out movie. Once again Buscemi plays on our sympathies as the local loser Tommy Basilio. He wallows around looking for love in all the wrong places after his ex-girlfriend dumps him for his ex-boss. No one really knows if the baby she's carrying is Tommy's, even HE doesn't know for sure. All he wants is someone to love and care about him, and by the end of the movie, I had my Kleenex box out. Another characteristic that people can identify Steve Buscemi with is his 'broad, colorful and amusing' vocabulary as well. For what ever reason makes you become familiar with him, the whole truth behind Steve Buscemi is that he is a creative and intelligent individual.
