SKYGUSTY KENNELS

Welcome to my online hound and family photo album.

Skygusty Kennels is the home of a family tradition of hunters with hounds carried on since 1754 when my husbands family, the Harmon's, settled in the New River Valley of Virginia and West Virginia. We got the name from the small town in the holler in southwestern West Virginia called Skygusty where my husband was born and raised. His ancestors settled the area many moons ago. They were hunters with dogs all their lives and this tradition has been passed down from one to the next generation and we are striving to continue to keep this tradtion alive. The following pages of pictures are of our family and the hounds we have enjoyed hunting with and hounds we presently hunt with.

Old Skygusty

This picture was taken in Black Wolf, West Virginia, in McDowell County, which was dedicated to the Harmon family for one of the many Indian battles they fought. Skygusty was named by the Shawnee for "Great Warrior, which the Shawnee called Henry Harmon, who is my husbands many great grandfathers back.

OUR YOUNGEST DOG SHOW AND HUNTING MEMBER

This is a picture of our daughter Zoa who enjoys playing and showing our hounds. She goes to many local and state shows and shows dogs in the Kid's Shows sponsored by these clubs. She also enjoys going coon hunting with her parents, and has probably been coon hunting more than most men brag about going (lol).

OUR YOUNGEST DOG SHOW AND HUNTING MEMBER

This is a picture of my husband Charlie otherwise known as Mo online. It was taken at a Competition Bench Show in Elk Park, North Carolina. The hound he is showing is a Plott Hound named 'PR' Skygusty Racheal's Prayer. She has been sold since this picture and now she resides in West Virginia where she is used to hunt bear and coon with.
