We purchased this
1964 Buick Skylark Convertible in April of 1999. I am now in the
process of transforming this into a true
It came from Flint
with a 300 cid 2bbl V-8 with a 2 speed switch pitch transmission.
Apparantly, the only option, besides the drop top was power
steering. This won't do for a 21st century street rod. My planned
mods in order of planned completion:
Fix rust
holes on firewall.
Convert
manual drum to power front disc brakes and rebuild front
end.
Replace
coil springs and sway bars.
Clean
and paint frame and replace body bushings.
Convert
the open rear to a 3.50-3.90 posi.
Replace
both sides of the floorpan.
Rebuild
the 67 430 I picked up for it with new pistions and a TA
Perfomance Cam and all the good stuff.
Rebuild
and significantly beef up the TH200R4 to go behind the
big block.
Redo the
dash with aftermarket guages and replace the factory
wiring.
Add
Vintage Air A/C.
Redo the
interior with bucket seats and 3 point seat belts.
Drive
the damn wheels off it.
My modest
goals for this project are to get it road ready again within 8
months. The interior and boady work/painting will come sometime
after that. I want 350 streetable HP with Electronic Fuel
Injection of some sort. I would love it if I am able to coax 17
mpg at 70 mpg while I am at it.
