Facts:
Wagner was a genius when it came to opera. His personal life, however, was somthing entirely different. Multiple affairs with married women, extravegent misspending resulting in heavy financial loss (not dissimilar to Mozart) and extreme antisemitism were all contributors.

Hitler once declared Wagner as Germany's national composer - he was a great admirer of the later.
