As a younger man, he was a teacher, violinist, cellist and chamber musician. Later on, he mostly conducted performances of his own works, in addition to writing commisioned pieces.
Major Work(s): His most famous operas are La Clemenzadi Tito(1752), Alceste(1767) and Iphigenie en Tauride(1779), in addition to the ballet Don Juan(1761).
