health tipsIt is a funny thing I've noticed as I grow older...

Better health consists of simple things done consistently, really and truly. If we can just do a few good things for ourselves during the day, the body is quite amazing at keeping us healthy.

I used to think it was laziness that kept me from doing things I know I could do to feel better. Now I realize that I just thought it was too simple, too easy. It's really not.

So what are some of the simple, consistent changes I'm working on every day?

Just watching my water intake, going to bed at a decent hour having let go of the problems of the day and the worries of tomorrow (surrendering them to God), eating healthy (we all know what that is), detoxing when I need it (and we all know when that is - we bloat, we feel sluggish, we know because our body tells us, we just don't always listen) and having a life.

What is having a life? To me, having a life means laughing, enjoying the company of others, being creatively involved in something we enjoy. It means being aware of and in the present moment, rather than worrying about the future, or dredging up the past.

Seven steps for the body, and 3 for the soul....
  • Increase your water intake
  • Regular exercise (5 times per week, 30-45 minutes).
  • Get plenty of good quality sleep.
  • Maintain a balanced diet of good carbohydrates (fruits, veggies, grains, and legumes), good fats, and protein.
  • Take nutritional supplements targeted to your specific needs as well as eliminate fast foods and saturated fats.
  • Wash your hands frequently and practice "Good Hygiene."
  • Detoxify your system and take an antioxidant.
  • De-stress your mind and body with yoga, meditation or spiritual practices.
  • Have fun laugh every day. Humor is good medicine.
  • Develop positive personal and professional relationships.
