The University of Memphis announced Tuesday, Aug. 5 that WREG-TV Channel 3 in Memphis has become a corporate sponsor of Tiger athletics. The five-year arrangement, valued at $150,000 a year, will enhance the marketing and promotion efforts of the programs in the athletic department. The agreement calls for WREG to assist in the production of some of the Tigers' commercial advertising, promotional spots and special programs. The station will also air advertisements and special programs that will enhance the school's marketing efforts. WREG also has agreed to create a major special event that could include a live pregame telecast from a tailgate party at a Tiger football game. A telecast of Midnight Madness, the start of men's basketball practice in October, also is a possibility. The station will also make a sizeable, undisclosed cash contribution to the athletic department each year of the agreement.
