About Your Teacher

I grew up in Germantown, TN were I lived with my parents Margaret and Tom Williams.  I started kindergarten in the fall of 1973.  I attended Harding Academy, Woodale location.  I enjoyed school.  In the sixth grade I left Harding Academy and went to Briarcrest.  I continued in the Briarcrest school system until I graduated in 1986.  While I was in school at Briarcrest, I participated in many sports and educational activities.  Basketball, cross-country, swimming and track were a few of the sports I participated in.  I was also a member of the Math Club, Science Club, and the Young Inventors Club.  Science and Math were my favorite subjects but I enjoyed Geography, Astronomy, and Health too.  In 1981 and 1982, I won first place at the school Science Fair.  I went to the city Science Fair but did not place.  In the fall of 1986, I started college at Memphis State University (now called the University of Memphis).  I planned to major in Accounting.  I continued my studies at Memphis State for three and a half years and then decided to take a "break".  After being out of school for six years, I returned to school at Austin Peay State University, where I graduate in May.  When I decided to return to school I realized Accounting was not the career that I wished to pursue.  I realized Accounting was not the career that I wished to pursue.  I realized, over my six-year break, something I had probably known and just not opened up to all of my life - I wanted to be a teacher.  I wanted to make a difference in a child's life.

I feel that children are the future of America.  I also feel that through my life experiences and the education I have received from Austin Peay, I have a lot to offer children.  I believe that children learn best through experience and exploration of new problems and ideas.  Children should be given the opportunities to experience what they are learning in school, not just hear about it in the classroom.  I plan to have an active class.  If children are involved in what they are learning, they will learn more and retain the information longer.  I also believe that children who are involved in school activities, such as sports or clubs, care more about their school and get more out of their school experience.
