Korea 1958 --1974
The art we know as Kuk Sool Won was origionally founded by Kuk Sa Nym (In Hyuk Suh) in 1958. After many years intensivly studying the various martial styles of Korea he was finally ready to intergrate them into one comprehensive martial arts package. One of his goals was to return to the Korean people an important part of their cultural and martial arts heritige. In 1961 Kuk Sa Nym founded the Korean Kuk Sool Won (association). Now the study of Kuk Sool became more open and for the first time in recorded history, martial arts instruction was made available to anyone who wanted to study, regardless of their social station.
United States 1974 -- Present
Kuk Sa Nym brought Kuk Sool to the U.S. in 1974. After a short period of preperation, he opened the World Kuk Sool Association Headquarters School in San Francisco, California in 1975. At this time Kuk Sa Nym began traveling the country and the world promoting Kuk Sool Won through demonstrations, seminars, interviews, and black belt testings. In 1991 Kuk Sa Nym moved the headquarters school to Houston, Texas to be more centrally located for the growing numbers of Kuk Sool Won practitioners. Present --World The results of Kuk Sa Nym's efforts have been the explosive growth of Kuk Sool world wide and an ever increasing presence in the global martial arts community. Kuk Sa Nym has recieved many prestigious awards for his efforts including Black Belt Magazine's Man of the Year- 1984, Inside Kung Fu's Instructor of the Year- 1988, and Tae Kwon Do Times' Master of the Year- 1993. Kuk Sa Nym is an Honorary Citizen in 157 cities throughout the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. 5 Cities even have a 'Kuk Sa Nym' day.
