TO THE MEMORY OF JOYE AND JENNIFER BENNETT

Killed on December 12, 1998

Joye, age 17, was only 3 days from her 18th Birthday. Jennifer was 13. The 2 sisters were on there way to a friends wedding. They wouldn't make it.
Joye made Jennifer sit in the right rear passenger seat, because the front passenger seat belt was broken and Joye dearly loved her sister and wanted her safe and secure. Only GOD can tell us what the girls were talking about as their trip came to a tragic halt.
Coming over the hill was a Drunk Driver, a man that had twice before been convicted of Driving Drunk. He was coming head-on into the path of the girls, travelling on a two lane state route in the pouring down rain.
As the two vehicles approach the Drunk Driver pulls out to pass and hits Joye and Jennifer Head-on. He never hit the brakes, He never let up off the gas, He just drove right thru them.
Joye and Jennifer did not survive the encounter with the Drunk Driver, But the Drunk did. And the family of Joye and Jennifer (Mother, Father, and Little Brother) must face life without them.
I did not get the pleasure of knowing Joye or Jennifer but I have had the wonderfull opportunity to get to know the family. Thru them I have come to know the kind of people these girls were. Dedicated Christians who had given their lives to GOD, They were truly loved by everyone who knew them. The funeral services had so many in attendance it was standing room only. The testimonials by those whose life Joye and Jennifer touched brought tears to the eyes of this Trooper. As I stood inside the doors of the Church and listened I was sad that I had not met them before and yet glad knowing that their lives had also touched mine.
Read on to the poem below and allow Joye to touch your heart as this was written by her.
I CAN RELY ON YOU
When disappointments come
And all around me things are blue
When I am feeling glum
I know I can rely on you
I know that you are here:
Though your body I can't see.
I know that you really care
And You will comfort me.
When all I want to do is cry
And the world crumbles at my feet
When my heart is screaming "WHY?"
You will give me peace so sweet.
I can always trust in you
Circumstances do not matter.
You will show me what to do
Midst all the distracting clatter.
You show me whats really important.
You show me your really in control.
My life has truly been planned out,
And your the engineer of it all!
I can know that you really love me
By your tender concern and care.
The peace you give is so lovely
It lets my heart feel so free, so clear!
I thank you for your gift of love
For sending Christ to die!
For now I know I'll live above,
And reign with you on high!
Thanks for all my other blessings, too-
Counting blessings really works:
When disappointments come,
And all around me things are blue:
When I am feeling glum,
I know I can rely on You!
