Driving under the influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol has reached epidademic proportions in this country. The number of lives taken, people injured, and property damaged each year by drunk drivers has reached an appauling rate. You see stories everyday where another drunk driver has taken someones life, Someones loved one. People see the stories in the local Newspaper or on the T.V. News and say "Thats Terrible..Someone should do something about that!" and they continue with there daily routine never thinking that THEY ARE SOMEONE!!
THE DUI PROBLEM
About half of all fatal crashes involve drinking drivers
Most dead drinking drivers were DUI at the time of the crash
Alcohol-related crashes are NINE TIMES more likely to result in death
NATIONAL STATISTICS ON DUI DRIVERS
Daytime=1% or less
Weeknights=Approx. 5%
Weekend nights=10% or more
On a typical Friday or Saturday night one out of seven drivers leaving a bar is DUI
The average DUI Violator drives intoxicated 80 times each year. (once every four or five nights)
A study done by the Prevention Branch and The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism shows that approximately 1 out of every 5 convicted DUI drivers will repeat the crime.
FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
Today we can do more to stop Drunk Drivers than ever before. Thanks to high profile publicity, Lawmakers are more aware of the problem and more available to recieve YOUR input on influencing tougher DUI laws. Call them, write them, e-mail them but get your point across.
Support better training for your local Police Officers in the detection and Apprehension of Drunk Drivers. Contact your local Depts. and inquire if they have an active DUI Unit. Check to see if there is a Certified DUI Instructor on staff.
Check with and/or become a member or Supporter of M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers)(by the way its not just for mothers anymore...men are joining everyday)You will find a link to MADD below, please check it out! Your MADD chapters are watching over you and your children by lobbying for tougher laws,tracking cases in court, and making public appearances to both inform and train people on what can be done.
I WILL HELP
I am a Certified DUI Instructor for the Tennessee Highway Patrol and each year I consistently rank amoung the top Troopers in the State for DUI Apprehensions. In 1996 I recieved an award for being the Top Trooper in DUI Arrest. I enjoy an Extremely High Conviction rate and pride myself on making GOOD CASES. I have developed a large Library of material on DUI Detection, Apprehension, and Court testimony. All of my resources are available to any Officer or Department at any time.
