One of our Cadettes, Brandy, is working on a Project and wants to plant a tree using dirt and pebbles from all over. Our whole troop may get involved but right now it is just her and she needs lots of dirt. She has decided on planting a Silver Maple, and she would like to plant one at our church and one at her school so she needs lots of dirt & pebbles. :)
We, Brandy & her mom Faith, have talked to all kinds of people that deal with soil including the Tennessee Department of Agricultural plant certification (regulatory services) and they have no regulations against sending a little container of dirt within the states they did tell us to ask all that participate to please sterilize the dirt before you send it.
They also told us a good way to include the people from overseas is to have them to send a little pebble or stone, because they have no regulations against small pebbles or stones being sent but the soil can not be sent overseas and this would be a way to include the overseas girls and troops, because the stones could be set on top of the soil around the tree like pea gravel is used. So if you are overseas please send us a couple of small washed pebbles or stones.
To those here in the United States please send a little film container or small pill bottle with your sterilized dirt. Please seal it with tape good so it won't open and write your troop #, girls & leaders names, council name, state, level of scouting and your snail mail address on it and with it. A postcard or picture of troop would be great!
Brandy is hoping to have a great turnout and include as many as possible. She is really excited about this and we thank you in advance for helping. We will also be adding your name to this page as we receive your dirt and also hope to personally respond to you by snail mail.
We are hoping to receive dirt and pebbles from everywhere! We hope to include you and your dirt or pebbles for this project. Email us for our snail mail address.
