Halloween

Here are some photos from our 2001 Halloween Celebration.

Miss Elizabeth Bennet

This year I became Elizabeth Bennet from the Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice. This is a wonderful novel that takes place in 18th century England. I cherish this book! If you have not seen the A&E 1995 TV adaptation, you must!

"My dear Lizzy, where can you (she and Mr. Darcy) have been walking to?" was a question which Elizabeth received from Jane as soon as she entered the room...

At night she opened her heart to Jane. Though suspicion was very far from Miss Bennet's general habits, she was absolutely incredulous here.

"You are joking, Lizzy. This cannot be! engaged to Mr. Darcy! No, no, you shall not deceive me. I know it to be impossible."

"This is a wretched beginning indeed! My sole dependence was on you; and I am sure nobody else will believe me, if you do not...He still loves me, and we are engaged."

"Oh, Lizzy! it cannot be. I know how much you dislike him."

"You know nothing of the matter. That is all to be forgot. Perhaps I did not always love him so well as I do now."

"...are you quite certain that you can be happy with him?"

"There can be no doubt of that. It is settled between us already, that we are to be the happiest couple in the world."

Here I am with my sister, the "scary hostess" of the party.

Aunt Bee

This is my mother. She put this costume together, and we all thought she looked so much like Aunt Bee from The Andy Griffith Show. Doesn't she look fantastic!? Her costume has such character!

"Andy, dinner's ready!"

"Opie, wash up and come on downstairs!"

"I just opened a jar of kerosene cucumbers that I canned last year, and I made a peach pie for dessert!"

"Barney and Thelma Lou you just sit down right here."

"Helen, I hope Opie has been behaving at school."

"Now Opie, you be sure you finish your homework right after dinner. We wouldn't want Miss Crump to be disappointed."

Marilyn Monroe

So Stylish...So Classy!

Here is my niece dressed as Marilyn Monroe. Kelsey had a ball playing such an extravagant character. She loved it although she wore uncomfortable false lashes. Ooo-Laa-Laa, look at that beauty mark! For all the hard work and patience, she looks wonderful!

Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend

The French were bred to die for love
they delight in fighting duels
but I prefer a man who lives
and gives expensive jewels.
A kiss on the hand may be quite continental
but diamonds are a girl's best friend.
A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental
on your humble flat, or help you at the automat.
Men grow cold as girls grow old
and we all lose our charms in the end.
But square-cut or pear-shaped
these rocks don't lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl's best friend
...Tiffany's ... Cartier...
Talk to me, Harry, Winston, tell me all about it!
There may come a time when a lass needs a lawyer
but diamonds are a girl's best friend.
There may come a time when a hard-boiled employer
thinks you're awful nice
but get that ice or else no dice.
He's your guy when stocks are high
but beware when they start to descend,
It's then that those louses go back to their spouses
Diamonds are a girl's best friend.
I've heard of affairs that are strictly platonic
but diamonds are a girl's best friend,
and I think affairs that you must keep liaisonic
are better bets if little pets get big baggettes.
Time rolls on and youth is gone
and you can't straighten up when you bend
but stiff back or stiff knees
you stand straight at Tiffany's
Diamonds... Diamonds...
- I don't mean rhinestones -
but Diamonds, Are A Girl's Best Friends
