The Phantom Menace

The Phantom Menace is the beginning of the saga. The peaceful world Naboo is being blockaded by the Trade Federation, who are protesting raised outer rim trade taxes. The Chancellor of the Senate sends Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his padawan learner Obi-Wan Kenobi to negotiate a treaty to end the blockade. What the Jedi and Senate don't know is that the Trade Federation is under the influence of sith master Darth Sidious. Darth sidious instructs the Viceroy of the Trade Federation to invade Naboo with their droid army and to kill the Jedi ambassadors. The Jedi escape death and stow away to the surface of Naboo, where they meet Jar Jar Binks. With Jar Jar, they free Queen Amidala from the military takeover and flee from the planet. Due to a damaged ship, they are force to land on Tatooine for repairs. On Tatooine, they realize they have no money worth anything to the locals to pay for needed parts. They befriend Anakin Skywalker, a young boy, who wins a pod-race to get the money needed to pay for the parts. Now with Anakin and Jar Jar, they go to Coruscant to ask the Senate to act on their behalf. Frustrated with the Senate's lack of ability to act, she goes back to Naboo in a bold attempt to free her people. Meanwhile, Naboo's Senator Palpatine is elected as the new Chancellor of the Senate. On Naboo, the Gungans, the species of Jar Jar Binks, creates a diversion to move the droid army from the capital, while the Queen, her guards, and the Jedi sneak into the palace. They infiltrate the palace and capture the Viceroy of the Trade Federation. Meanwhile, the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi face the sith apprentice Darth Maul. Darth Maul kills Qui-Gon Jinn, but Obi-wan kills Darth Maul. While all of this is happening, Anakin Skywalker "borrows" a Naboo fighter and joins the other pilots in attacking the droid control ship That runs the droid army on remote. Anakin inadvertantly destroys the ship, rendering the army useless. This is to the relief of the Gungans, who were loosing their battle against the droid army. With the Trade Federation defeated, Naboo returned to peaceful times, only now with cooperation between the Gungans and the Naboo people.

The Attack of the Clones

In Episode II, Padme Amidala is now a Senator, and Anakin Skywalker is now a much older padawan learner and apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi. After an assasination attempt on Senator Amidala, Obi-Wan is ordered to track down the bounty hunter hired to kill her, while Anakin acts as bodyguard to Padme back on Naboo. Obi-Wan traces the bounty hunter to Kamino, where a clone army is being produced for the Republic under the order of some long-dead Jedi, Sifa-Dias. Obi-Wan then tries to apprehend Jango Fett, the bounty hunter, but Fett gets away. Kenobi follows Fett to Gianosis, where Separatists are forming a droid army. Kenobi is captured there, but not before sending a transmission to Anakin, Padme, and the Jedi Council. Meanwhile, Anakin and Padme go to Tatooine to try to find Anakin's mother. Anakin finds her nearly dead in a Tunsken Raider camp. After she dies in his arms, he is blinded by hatred and slaughters all of the Tusken Raiders in the camp. Soon after Anakin's mother's burial, Anakin and Padme recieve Obi-Wan's signal. They retransmit the signal to the Jedi Council and then fly off to try to rescue him. Using a unlikely entrance in a steam vent, then find themselves in a droid factory for the Separatist's army. After a struggle they are captured. Now Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme are all about to be executed by three exotic animals. They put up a good fight, and manage to hold off the monsters until the Jedi arrive in Force (no pun intended). After a spectacular battle that killed the bounty hunter Jango Fett, the Jedi are surrounded by the droid army. Seconds before death, Jedi Master Yoda arrives with the clone army from Kamino. The Republic Senate had given Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers due to the Separatists crisis, and he had immediately allowed the use of a Grand Army of the Republic. During the ensuing battle, Separatist leader and Sith apprentice Count Dooku slips away and tries to escape. In an attempt to prevent his leaving, Obi-Wan and Anakin are wounded; Anakin's lost his right hand. Before Dooku could leave, Yoda arrives, and a battle of two masters of the force begins. Yoda easily repels all of Dooku's attacks, and the only way Dooku escaped was by nearly dropping a pillar on the unconscious Obi-Wan and Anakin. The movie ends, but the Clone Wars had just begun.

A New Hope

Luke Skywalker leaves his home on Tatooine with Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi to join the Rebellion against the Empire and to become a Jedi. After discovering their destination planet, Alderaan, destroyed by the Empire, Luke, Obi-Wan, the pilot Han Solo, and Solo's furry companion Chewbacca are pulled aboard the Empire's massive battle-station, The Death Star. Using smuggling compartments, they sneak aboard the station unfound as the Empire's minions search their ship. Luke, Han Solo, and Chewbacca then use Storm Trooper disguises to rescue Princess Leia (who happened to be a prisoner there) while Obi-Wan deactivated the tractor beam that prevented their escape. Obi-Wan then confronts Anakin Skywalker, who now is Darth Vader, the Sith lord and a leader in the Empire. Obi-Wan surrenders in the lightsaber battle and becomes One with the Force, while Luke and the rest escape. After escaping back to the Rebel Base, the Death Star tracts them and plans to destroy the base. The Rebels respond with an attack on the Death Star with small fighters. Luke Skywalker, using the Force instead of a computer, fires the deadly shot that blew up the Death Star. Darth Vader escapes because he happened to be in a small fighter himself when it blew. The Rebellion was safe, for now.

Through an involved scheme, Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, Lando, and the droids C-3PO and R2D2 rescue Han from the underworld lord Jabba the Hutt. Luke then returns to Dagobah to finish his training with Yoda. Yoda is sick, and is close to dieing. Luke then rejoins his friends, where they are making a battle plan to destroy the new, bigger Death Star. Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca volunteer to destroy the Death Star's shield generator on the nearby moon of Endor. Lando volunteers to lead the fleet's attack on the Death Star. Han and company are not successful at first in their mission, and Luke turns himself in to the Empire to face Darth Vader. Then Han gains the help of native Ewoks in taking over the shield generator. This allows Lando and the fleet to enter the Death Star and blow up the main reactor. Before the reactor is blown, Luke meets Darth Vader's master, Emperor Palpatine, who wants to turn Luke over to the dark side of the Force. Luke defeats Darth Vader in a lightsaber battle, but then refuses to turn over to the dark side.
