A Brief History Of Ground Zero Racing.
GZR Began as M&k. Joe Mershon took in payment from a capenter job a used pure stock racer. Joe & Rich Partnered up with limited funds and began there first year. They split driving duties. One week on one week off. They finished 8th in points. At the end of the season, Warren Stone decided to retire from racing. He ran in the late Model Division. , he spoke with Al Coy, also a late model owner and driver, he told Allen he would give his old late model fram to someone that would be intrested in moving up in class, but would continue to race at Penn Can. Allen told him about Rich, and so ground zero racing began in the spring of 2001. The name owas chosen because they were moving into a whole new division with nothing more that a beat-up frame. They were starting from ground Zero.
They were approached by a couple of sponsors, Rely Landscaping, Original Pizza and Donald Dean and Sons to get on board, so with these and Mom and Dad they went racing. With much help and used parts from Allen Coy and Dean Reagan things got under motion, they became the dumpster duo and number T3, with driving duties to Rich, Crew cheifing to Joe. Rich became the rookie of the year and they finished 8th in points. Joe did drive once at Skyling and mananged to spin out and break his thumb, that seemed to end his driving career.
The following year they were able to update their equipment and car, that they purchased from Jade Brewer. Joe moved out of town, that left the crew chiefing to dad, they finished 9th in points, the following year Uncle Joe got on board and became head engine builder, thing went back and forth with lots of bad luck, Finished the year 10th in points. Last year was okay, couple top fives and a 8th place finish in points, looking forward to starting this year withj sponsorship fom G's excavating, AJ's Quick Stop, Snake Creek Marine, State line Tavern, Chandler Chassis and Dondald Dean & Son. Ground zero Racing has always been family oriented from 75 year old grandma, who has not missed one race since we started, to several Anuts Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cosins etc... Thanks to all Loyal Racing Fans GZR
