A Brief History of Pollogi
But first ... a word about time.
Bithron uses the calendar of Light, in which Year One is the year of the coming of the One God. This calendar was not officially adopted in Bithron until about YL (Year of Light) 50. Which is about the same time that Bithrons started keeping track of historical events as well, so it all works out.
The Elves and most of the rest of Pollogi use the Elven Calendar. Except for the Orcs, who have their own system.
The following timeline reflects common Bithron knowledge of quasi-recent historical events. Undoubtedly the Elves and other parties will have a slightly different record of the same periods of time.
YL 52 (Elven Calendar Year 3089) Angered by the publication of a controversial letter written by a Sage of the Lord of Elves, the Council of The Nine urges the Kings of Bithron to expel all Elven ambassadors. The kings of Xilandria, Telodafos and Efkaria do so. The Lord of Kalloni Riza formally protests.
YL 53 (ECY 3090) Reports of violence against Elves in Xilandria, Telodafos and Efkaria rise. Many Elves emigrate to Kalloni Riza, fearing for their lives.
YL 54 (ECY 3091) Violence against Elves spreads to all the kingdoms of Bithron. Kings of the Kingdoms still friendly to the Elves urges Elven citizens to return to Kalloni Riza, and all Bithronian Elves to consider leaving as well.
YL 55 (ECY 3092) The Council of The Nine establishes camps for the re-education of Elves in the Kingdoms of Xilandria, Telodafos and Efkaria. The Council Elder warns that all Kingdoms who remain friendly with the Elves will risk angering the One God. The kings of Kleistogi, and Potaxira relent, expelling not only the Elven ambassadors, but also all citizens of Elven descent. Kalloni Riza issues a stern protest.
YL 57 (ECY 3094) Elven refugees flood south from Bithron. Elves in Xilandria, Potaxira, Efkaria, Telodafos and Kleistogi are randomly and routinely brutalized. Many are killed. The Lord of Kalloni Riza begins massing troops in the Forest of Reason.
YL 58 (ECY 3095) The Council of Nine begins organizing and training an army of clerics and paladins, drawn from the soldiers and citizenry of all the kingdoms of Bithron. The Kings of Kefali, Akar, Falziera and Geraki refuse to send troops, but do not protest this breach of sovereignty. Many of their citizens join the army anyway.
YL 59 (ECY 3096) The Lord of Kalloni Riza sends a party of Special Ambassadors, via Dentrongi with whom they’ve historically had close diplomatic ties, to treat with the Council of The Nine. The two sides meet for three days in a small village West of Dentron. On the third day, the Elven ambassadors are imprisoned and their escort is slain. Dentrongi, despite previous protestations of Neutrality, suddenly and unexpectedly closes its border with Kalloni Riza. The Army of the Nine, dubbed ‘The Blades of the Scythe’ encamps to the Southwest of Dentron.
YL 60 (ECY 3097) Fighting breaks out along the border between Dentrongi and Kalloni Riza. The Council of the Nine, now speaking for the Kings of Bithron declares war.
YL 61 – 62. (ECY 3098 – 99) Minor skirmishes play out along the Dentrongi border. The Blades, fearful of entering the Dasologos, attempt to draw the Elven host out of the forest. The Elves, still confident that a diplomatic solution may be reached, resist declaring total war.
YL 63 (ECY 3100) Elikrini Horsemen seize The Borderlands at the urging of The Council of The Nine. The Elven Border Forces withdraw beyond the Bonosakros, into the Koilada Perifania (The Valley of Pride). The Lord of Kalloni Riza hopes that the Council will be satisfied with the Borderlands, and does not attempt to reclaim it.
YL 64 (ECY 3101) The Blades of the Scythe cross the Bonosakros into Kalloni Riza, circumventing the defenses of the Dasologos entirely.
YL 65 (ECY 3102) The Blades of the Scythe march towards Edrazoi, crushing Kalloni Riza’s defenses and laying waste to the settlements in the Koilada Perifania. Priests of the Nine claim that the Fury of the Scythe God has made his warriors invincible.
YL 66 (ECY 3103) The Blades of the Scythe march west to Edrazoi unopposed, and lay siege to the city.
YL 71 (ECY 3108) After five years of living under siege, the suffering of the Elf people becomes too great for Lord Jonariius to bear. He surrenders to the Blades’ commander, Bishop Alan Manfren, in a formal ceremony on the Ektasi Koilada, agreeing to all terms. Elvish citizens of Bithron are stripped of all lands and property. Many are killed.
YL 72 – 133 (ECY 3109 – 70) Kalloni Riza rebuilds with the help of many thousands of dispossessed Elvish Bithron citizens. The Council of The Nine grows strong in Bithron and re-crafts Bithron society to resemble an empire with The Council as emperor. The Kings of the Fourteen Kingdoms struggle to retain what little sovereignty they have left.
YL 134 (ECY 3171) Orc Hordes breach the Elven defenses at Bonosakros and surge into Kalloni Riza.
YL 139 (ECY 3176) Elvish forces push the Orc Horde back beyond Bonosakros. All Elf settlements between Bonosakros and Edrazoi destroyed, and the land is laid to waste.
YL 140 (ECY 3177) Lord of Kalloni Riza sends an ambassador to the King of Dentrongi requesting aid in launching a counter attack against Kako Xekino. The request is denied and the Orcs are allowed to return to their homelands in safety, their numbers largely intact.
YL 149 (ECY 3186) Orcs begin launching attacks against Bithron defenses in The Borderlands. The defenses barely hold.
YL 151 (ECY 3188) The Bithron Border Guard is established to protect the land against the Orcs, and establish New Keep, south of the line.
YL 152 – 210 (ECY 3189 – 3247) Worship of the One God in Bithron grows. The Many are all but forgotten.
YL 211 (ECY 3248) The Year of Prophecy.
YL 215 (ECY 3252) Queen Amanda of Xilandria proclaims her son, Adam, the crown prince to be the One King. The Council of the Nine Acknowledges him that same year.
YL 216 (ECY 3253) The Kingdoms adjacent to Xilandria pledge their might in the support of the One King. Bithron is cleft into three factions, with Potaxira, Dentrongi, Efkaria and Telodafos, the so-called Sympathetic Kingdoms, pledging their might in support of Wortsmander; Akar, Geraki, Elikrin, Falziera and Kefali, the Aggressor Kingdoms, actively opposing; and Skliroxira, Kleistogi, Spaznizi and Xirogi caught in between.
YL 217 (ECY 3254) The massed forces of Xilandria, Potaxira and Dentrongi, supported by the Blades of the Scythe, march East into Elikrin, taking the Elikrini by surprise. Seeing troops advancing on their Western border, Kleistogi takes up arms against the One King.
YL 219 (ECY 3255) Kleistogi is taken by Sympathetic forces. Telodafos is invaded by Geraki Hammer Men. Fearing for its sovereignty, Skliroxira declares against Wortsmander to protect its northern border against the Geraki Hammer Men. The King of Falziera, along with his entire household, is slain by the captain of his guard, whose allegiance has been bought by the One King. Falziera falls without a single battle. The commander of Falziera’s mighty war fleet burns his ships at anchor rather than see them fall into the hands of Wortsmander. He is hung for his trouble.
YL 222 (ECY 3256) Skliroxira's tiny army surrenders to a small contingent of the Blades of the Scythe. Spaznisi and Xirogi issue official declarations of neutrality. Neither kingdom is invaded by either side.
YL 224 (ECY 3258) Adam Wortsmander, now 13, claims the sword of Enas, and ascends to the throne of Bithron. His first official act as One King is to issue the Proclamation of Purity, forbidding Bithrons from partaking of a long list of vices.
YL 226 (ECY 3260) Kalloni Riza officially recognizes the government of the One King, sending ambassadors to treat with Adam Wortsmander.
YL 228 (ECY 3262) The Temples and Abbeys of the Orders of Balasar and Gran within the Sympathetic and occupied kingdoms are burned, and many priests are put to death. The Council of The Nine declares that the victory of the One King has rendered the Non-Prophetic Orders obsolete and prophane. Henceforth, the worship of the Aspects of Balasar and Gran are proclaimed illegal in the Sympathetic-controlled kingdoms of Bithron.
YL 230 (ECY 3264) Sympathetic forces launch a hastily assembled fleet from the Western ports of Xilandria and Potaxira. The fleet sails south, hoping to sail around the Akrotiri Fobos and catch the smaller fleet at Kefali by surprise. The Sympathetic fleet is swallowed by the great storm Thyella Nero. No further naval excursions are planned by either side.
YL 232 (ECY 3266) Aside from the occasional skirmish, all military activity tapers off sharply. Both sides refuse to acknowledge the other, however, and the war continues in name alone. Both sides also refuse to disarm, and standing armies threaten to starve the land on each side of the line.
YL 235 (ECY 3269) Adam Wortsmander sends an ambassador to Kalloni Riza urging the Elves to accept generous terms in return for an allegiance against the Aggressor kingdoms, and Elven warriors to help smash their armies. The Lord of Kalloni Riza, begging poverty, regretfully declines.
