Student Views of the First Year of the SSWG Program
I don’t know about the rest if my classmates but I have had a great time in this program so far. I came into the program thinking that I already knew so much about the field, but I am now much more humble. There is still such a broad spectrum of knowledge I have yet to learn. I am also surprised about the amount of knowledge I have gained in so little time. Helping skills, group work skills, and workplace standards have been a large addition to my “knowledge library”. Sheridan is a great school with diverse faculty paired with unique teaching styles. They have made it fun and easy for me to intake the material the present to me. I now have instilled in me the skills I need for the field practicum next semester. I can’t wait to start applying theory to practice. From paraphrasing to positive attending I look forward to refining my skills and adding my own personal touch. I would recommend this program to any person who likes working with people, especially seniors.

This is my first year here at Sheridan and in the SSW-Ger. I am finding that it is opening up my eyes to want I am going to have to deal with when I start working. The teachers that we have had so far have been great to showing us the way, and knowing that the teachers know what they are talking about lets you know that your money is going to work. I am glad that I came to Sheridan, I know now that I made the right choice.

Since coming to college I’ve grown personally as a person. Not only has Sheridan given me the chance to meet such great new friends, but it has also helped me by improving my social skills. The classes are all really fun and provide me with excellent knowledge of the field itself. As each day goes on and the semester begins to disappear I know that with everything that I have experienced and learned so far will stay with me. Each teacher with their unique style of teaching has left an impact on me as a person, and as a student. So far this semester and course through the good times and bad times has been everything I thought it would be and even more. I knew that college would be a lot of hard work, but the fact that I’ve done so well has really surprised me, and I can only thank the excellent teaching staff that has been provided to this course. So in all this course has been a great learning experience so far, and I can’t wait to do more.

When class first began I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect in this course. I had previous experience helping others in the program last year and had a pretty solid idea of what i would be learning. What I initially imagined fell so far short of what I have actually learned just in the first semester. The teaching staff at Sheridan focus on our strong points with regards to learning in an attempt to better teach us which is very unique. I feel like I am really gaining the tools I will need to be an effective social worker in the future. I realise that I have only just begun my learning journey but I feel confident that Ii will be taught what I need to know to really help people and make a difference. Every week I find myself applying the knowledge of daily classes to my own life and those around me which makes learning that much more crucial. This weekly advancing in insight really makes me look forward to learning more and developing my social working skills. I can't imagine being anywhere but Sheridan.
