The Water Cycle

Evaporation/transpiration, condensation, precipitation

Definitions -

Water Cycle - Movement of water from one part of the hydrosphere to another

Evaporation - The rising of water from a liquid to a gas

Transpiration - Release of water vapor as a product of photosynthesis

Evapotranspiration - When precipitation goes back into the atmosphere (50%)

Precipitation - Movement of water from the atmosphere to earth's surface

Condensation - Change of water vapor to liquid due to cooling of air

Infiltration - Downward movement of surface water into the ground. (gravity)

Runoff - surface flow that enters the lakes and rivers (32%)

Water Table - Boundary between dry soil and saturated soil

Groundwater - Water that has infiltrated the ground
