Lowering springs are what give the sports car the sports car look. By lowering the distance from the car to the ground the car receives an incredible look. When a car is lowered it gives the car better handling, corning and a better feel for the road. There is however a downfall to lowering a car. That downfall has many names: the curb, a bump in the road, a speed bump, even a parking lot entrance. Depending on how much a person lowers their car, means how much more a threat all of the downfalls become. Fortunately most lowering springs only lower a car between the range of 1 and 2 inches. Any car lowered past 2 inches causes speed bumps and entrances begin to look more and more threatening. The stock springs are of course 1 to 2 inches taller than the lowering springs however both springs have the same amount of coils. This means that both springs are strong enough to hold the car; however, the taller spring has more leeway giving the car a smoother ride. A race spring does not have as much leeway and therefore does not provide the same smooth ride. Here is a picture of a lowering spring for a Honda civic.
