Induction is quite commonly the first upgrade that any person usually buys when 'tuning' a civic. It usually adds about 5-10 Hp by allowing more air into the motor and is any easy upgrade to install. The reason why it is so easy to install is because this is a part that is known as a bolt-on. It quite simply just bolts on to the same spot that the stock intake does. There are two main types of intake systems.
| The first kind of intake is called a 'Short-Ram' intake. The intake gets its name due to the intake being 'short.' A short-ram intake is meant for higher RPM (rotations per minute) gains rather than low RPM gains. Therefore this intake is only effective when your car is at a higher RPM. Unfortunately most people do not spend a lot of their time in the high RPM range unless they are on the highway | ![]() |
| For a city driver or for a power increase at a lower RPM companies brought out an intake for just that purpose. This kind of intake is called a 'Cold-Air.' It is called a cold air intake because the intake pipe is longer than the 'short-ram' and reaches farther away from the motor. The motor, as it runs, generates heat which is not good for the intake to intake warm air, thus the farther away the intake reaches the colder the air is. | ![]() |
