Nitrocellulose
This high explosive has many uses. Also known as smokeless powder and gun cotton
this is the substance found in shot shells.
Capable of burning instantly it also serves are a LE (Low order
Explosive). This substance is
plasticised with camphor which forms the plastic of ping pong balls. All tho the NC in ping pong balls is not heavily
nitrated it is still capable of being detonated. The substance examined here is of the ping
pong ball variety since it’s cheap and readily available. The balls are often dissolved in acetone to
create NC lacquer and an explosive is then added (a primary, some primaries are
incompatible with NC however). When dry
the block is considered more stable and more powerful in many cases. Acetone Peroxide putty is the most
common. When dry the putty is much more
powerful then AP alone. The putty will reach
its DDP (Defragulation to detonation Point) in the smallest of quantities,
resulting in a sharp crack.
