Jessica's Story Visit Jessica's internet home
For a child, having a special dream come true means that they are special and have seen the beauty of the human spirit touch their little lives.
I have always had many dreams for all of my children, but for Jessica I have had a few more than my other children, the reason being when Jessica was diagnosed with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia I knew her life would have many hurtles to overcome. And few truimphs.
The day Jessica was diagnosed she was 3 months old and I remember feeling that if the world had stopped turning at that particular moment it would have been all right with me. But I am not built that way. I had my moment of feeling 'why my baby,' that was just a moment. One that I know many thousands of loving parents are faced with each day.
But something blessed happens to those of us who are survivors, fighters, problem solvers. We seek and search and find a way to make it better one way or another. "We never surrender our hope. Our love for our child!"
And on Nov. 9th, 2002, a dream of Jessica's came true. No, this dream was not the one that would stop her from losing her sight, but it was one that would help her understand the love and compassion of so many people who came together to make her dream come true (Jessica's dream to meet Dale Earnhardt Jr). It may not sound like a big deal to some but to a child who is losing her sight, it is a memory that will be forever etched within her heart and mind for a lifetime.
Jessica was touched that special day by Dale Jr. He gave her something the words "thank you" cannot do justice by. He shared his time, his compassion, and gave Jessica confidence that she can get through this now. She shook the hand of someone she admires and of someone she knows is also dealing with his own times of heartache and loss.
Dale Jr, you are an excellent example of what we should all strive to be in our lives: a dedicated human being to that which we feel in our hearts.
To give of ourselves freely with love and compassion and understanding to those we meet. And you, Dale Jr, gave that to my daughter on Nov. 9th. My friend, I can never explain to you what that meant. I wish I knew the words, but please always know in your heart {how much we appreciate you for who you are!}
Jessica still smiles a smile that is worth every moment of heartache. When we talk about her special day, her smile would light up the world!
I pray she will carry that smile and the feeling she has inside on how her life was touched by so many loving friends all the days of her life.
We would like to make some very special dedications.
This story was written with many loved ones in our extended family in mind so please bare with me as I acknowledge each of these beautiful souls.
