BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

**AHA BLS COURSES BOOK POLICY: In accordance with AHA Policy, all students must possess the CURRENT version of the textbook for each course BEFORE the course and then retain the book for future reference.

BOTH THE HEARTSAVER AND BASIC LIFE SUPPORT FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS COURSES CERTIFY THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENT FOR TWO YEARS.

Heartsaver Course - Designed for the lay public. Covers adult prudent living, risk factors, heart attack signals and actions and stroke information, appropriate one rescuer actions to take for an adult victim of cardiac arrest & foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). The Instructor may add other modules as appropriate for the audience such as pediatric CPR/FBAO, barrier devices, or AED explanation as directed by the TC Coordinator. Course participation documentation is given to all attendees regardless of skill level.
Time: About 3 hours.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Course - Designed for professional healthcare providers (EMT’s, Nurses, Physicians) but may be modified for day-care workers, lifeguards, and other non-healthcare professionals (law enforcement, park rangers, guides) whose job it is to respond in an emergency. Includes information on using equipment not readily available to the general public. This course covers one and two rescuer adult, child, and infant cardiac and respiratory arrest and foreign body airway obstruction, recognition and management of Cerebrovascular Accidents, and Transient Ischemic Attacks. Automatic External Defibrillation cognitive and manipulative skills module is mandatory for prehospital healthcare providers. OSHA universal precautions for cross-contamination and barrier devices are taught. Course completion documentation is given to attendees who successfully complete all course requirements. Course content maybe modified by the TC Coordinator to best meet the needs of the students.

Time: About 6 hours.
NO PREREQUISITES, HOWEVER, STUDENTS SHOULD BE FAMILIAR WITH MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AND HAVE PREVIOUS BLS CERTIFICATION. WRITTEN EXAM AND SKILLS EXAM REQUIRED.

NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL STANDARD 1ST AID & CPR COURSE:
This course is designed for the lay public and industry personnel such as day care and construction workers. It covers emergency action, basic life support, bleeding and shock, wounds, dressings, burns, head and spine injuries, chest, abdominal, and pelvis injuries, bone, joint, and muscle injuries, splinting the extremities, sudden illness, poisoning, bites and stings, cold and heat related emergencies, rescuing and moving victims.

Time: About 8 Hours

NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL ADVANCED 1ST AID & CPR COURSE:
This course is designed for first responders. It covers all of the above in great detail and includes practical application.

Time: About 40 Hours
WRITTEN AND SKILLS EXAMS REQUIRED.
