Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was a movie taken from J.R.R Tolkien’s epic novel. The movie opens with the dramatic telling of how the ring came to be. That narration leads into a scene in the shire where Gandalf visits for Bilbo Baggins’s eleventy first birthday party. After Bilbo’s early leaving, Frodo gets the ring from Bilbo when he Bilbo decides to leave the shire. Frodo and Gandalf know that Sauron’s ring wraiths know where the ring is and desire it greatly. They decide that they must leave to save themselves, and also to defeat Sauron, who is not in his physical form, but his spirit is still in existence. So they set out for the Elvish village of Rivendale. Gandalf realizes that the destruction of the ring of power will be a difficult task for Frodo to complete on his own, and the fellowship of the ring forms, including several halflings, elves, dwarves, and humans. The halflings (AKA hobbits), elves, dwarves, and humans set out to destroy the ring of power.

I can ,with complete honesty, say that this is the best movie I have ever seen. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was the most action-packed movie ever to come into existence. Not only did this movie have a lot of action, but the battle scenes were as realistic as the Civil War. Obviously in middle-earth there were no pistols and rifles as there were in the Civil War, but the deaths were very realistic and it looked as if these creatures/people were really dying. The way the movie was shot added a lot of extra drama.

Though Lord of the Rings was not exactly like any other specific books I’ve ever read, some of the ideas of mythology and nature did come from other various books and/or movies. The big thing in this movie was Good vs. Evil. I can name hundreds of thousands of books that have good guys and bad guys fighting against each other. One thing that came to my attention was the fact that all the good guys were very attractive and all the bad guys were very hideous and disgusting looking. This really shows that when the human race sees something that is not visually attractive, they will automatically think it can’t be good. When they see something that is very attractive, they will think it is automatically good. Another theme in this movie was how good could turn evil. Boromir, Bilbo, and Gandalf were all momentarily evil when they tried to take the ring from Frodo with force. Another wizard named “Sauroman” used to be even higher than Gandalf in terms of how good and powerful he was until he decided that he could not defeat Sauron, so he would join him on the evil side.

As I previously stated, this has to be the best movie I have ever seen. No one would want to change J.R.R. Tokien’s story, except, apparently, the makers of this movie. At the end of this movie, Boromir was dead and there was no possibility of him surviving. At the end of the book written by J.R.R. Tolkien, Boromir had not yet died. I would definitely have gone with Tolkien’s ending rather than the ending of the movie makers. Though Boromir would have to die in the next movie, I still think they should have cut this part out of the first one and put it into the second one. Though there was one mistake in where the movie ended, it was still a wonderful movie that I would encourage everyone to see. There was also a very small mistake that I am sure no one noticed. This mistake was that in the movie, Legolas (the elf) was a bit taller than both Aragorn and Boromir (the humans). In the stories of middle-earth, elves were supposed to be a little bit shorter than men, not taller. That mistake made almost no difference in my opinion of the movie, but it was something worth pointing out.The acting in Lord of the Rings was superb. They makers of this movie could not possibly get anybody better to play the parts of Frodo, Bilbo, Legolas, Strider, Boromir, Gandalf, Sauroman, Sauron, Gimli, and all the other wonderful characters. The one actor that stood out the most was the actor that played Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm). Bilbo was so sweet in the beginning of the movie, but when the ring was taken from him and given to Frodo, he became very upset because he was very attached to the ring. His face was meaner than Osama bin Laden’s when he tried to take the ring from Frodo. The orcs and the ring wraiths had very important parts that were played very well even though they had no lines (unless you consider a few grunts a line).

The only music that really stood out enough for me to notice that it was actually playing was in the very beginning when Sauron was defeated and the ring was taken by the humans. Though I didn’t really notice that the music was making such a big impact on the mood of the scenes, it really did even if you don’t really notice that the music is even playing.

The cinematography in this movie was magnificent. Light colors were used to show that a person or place was good. Dark colors and fire were used to show that a person or place was evil. The landscape also added a lot to the movie. I would strongly encourage everyone to see this movie. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen it.
