The Setup - 9/25/2004
Sorry, this page is under heavy (and recent) construction. If you're
interested in the equipment I decided to use, you'll find that information here.
Seeds are Persian Whites, soil is a blend of topsoil, steer manure, vermiculite,
and a weak pesticide (I'd like to avoid going sterile, or losing a kidney, after
viewing...). I decided to use three 36" plastic planters, and filled them
with the soil mixture, until I achieved a soil depth of roughly 6". I then
sprinkled the seeds down the center of each planter, and placed roughly another
1/4" of soil onto the sewn seeds. After watering them, I turned on the
electronics (a Hydrofarm fluorescent fixture with a 200W daylight fluorescent
bulb, and a small, oscillating fan, both of which are connected to a timer), and
let nature take its course (after one of our cats decided to sneak into the
closet and walk on the freshly sewn seeds...). |
