Emblematic Luxury
Shown here are Birkin bags in soft leather (the previous Birkin pictured was rigide, or inflexible leather). A Birkin is marked with the year it was made as well as the craftsman's ID number. If a bag needs repair, it will be sent back to the original craftsman. The roomy shape is reminiscent of its origin, as a tote-all for Jane Birkin. In 2004, the Birkin made headlines when Martha Stewart brought one to court with her regularly and was subsequently convicted for what many believe was truly a wealthy person's arrogance.

A bag that was famous across Europe and created a trend of mass-produced canvas totes, the Hermes Garden Party bag is noteable for its practicality and elegance. Martha Stewart brought one in Amazonia rubber along with her Birkin to court, sparking press outrage about her conspicuous display of wealth before jurors and sympathizers alike.
