Most people believe breeding neon tetras is hard, in this short and easy to understand article I will show you how I bred neon tetras.

A basic equipment list for breeding neon tetras.

1 x 5 gallon tank
1 x 25watt aquarium heater
1 x sponge filter
1 x air pump-for sponge filter
1 x 3ft of air tubing-for sponge filter
1 x blackwater extract
6 x healthy neon tetras
Live food
Live Plants

Your 5 gallon tank will be used for breeding, if you do not have a tank to place the adults buy a 10 gallon tank at wal-mart and set it up.

Setup your tank and get the sponge filter running. Read the directions on the bottle of blackwater extract and dose your aquarium accordingly. Add some live plants, java moss works well. Do not use a substrate. Have your temperature set at 80F.

For twelve days feed your neon tetras live foods. Brine shrimp, bloodworms, blackworms, etc. On the 12th day pick out a very plump neon and a very skinny neon, this will be your breeding pair. Place them in the tank that you have running with the sponge filter. Continue to feed them there live foods, on day 14 they will start spawning and you will some very aggressive behavior, do not remove them, watch them and try not to move much, when they appear to be done spawning and the female is not dropping anymore tiny white eggs remove the parents and place them back in there big tank. Then place a blanket over the aquarium halfway and do not turn any lights on or let direct sunlight hit it. The eggs will hatch in approximately 30 hours. Feed them live vinegar eels or microworms for 7-14 days and then start feeding them baby brine shrimp, feed them brineshrimp and add alittle flake food when there big enough until there 1 inch big then sell them and keep the best looking ones for your self and repeat it all over.
