Band History

In the summer of 2003, Pieter Kamps and Anthony Benedetti started jamming out in Anthony's garage. They wrote a few riffs, and the idea of a band started floating around. When the school year started, Anthony started searching for other members to fill positions of bass and drums. Finding a vocalist was undecided... whether they should search for one as well, or if somebody would fill the position. Anthony recruited old friend Chee-Quan Kam for bass guitar, and by his suggestion, a new student from Oshawa, Alex Cobbett, was asked to join on drums. Shortly after forming the musical quartet, Alex's drum kit, composed of some purchased and some hand-me-down pieces, was moved in Kamps' basement in October. Only after a few jam sessions, Alex and Kamps switched positions. The name Skin 'n' Bones was then used for a temporary band name. The band started out playing a few covers, including System of a Down's Toxicity, and The Offspring's Come Out and Play. Alex soon started writing original songs. By December, the band had 3 songs; one composed by Anthony, and the other two by Alex. Though the band seemed like it was on the right track, many band practices led to arguements and disputes. After the Christmas break, and not jamming for over 3 weeks, Alex and Anthony jammed at Kamps' one final time. Shortly after, Kamps was told he was going to be replaced. The band (now called Fathom) had not yet found a new drummer, but everyone was looking. The 3 went to Chee's friend Dave Gale's to record a demo for future members to be able to refer to. After spending a few days at Dave's trying to figure out his equipment, the band gave up on recording until it was absolutely needed. By March, through a friend at Anthony's Tae Kwon-Do school (Dan Brooks), Anthony managed to get in contact with a supposed awesome drummer, though two years younger than he and Alex. The band didn't find any problem in having a younger member, so they arranged to meet Joe. The first encounter was just a brief introduction, but a date to jam was arranged shortly after. At the end of the practice, Joe Fusco was asked to join and he agreed. In just a short while, Joe learned the band's songs, along with new covers, Metallica's Master of Puppets, One, Fade to Black, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Dream Theater's As I Am, and others. Alex then brought another 2 songs to the table, and the band started waiting on a vocalist to send them to start playing shows. In late May, singer Sean from the local band Abaddon came by to jam, but then later decided he was going to stick with his band. Finally in September, after a long wait, another singer came in and jammed (with the now unnamed band). He decided to join, but said it'd take some work to mix up the styles of music he had with our band. The band was going to record three of their songs, a cover or two then start booking shows. Then, unexpectedly Joe quit the band. Anthony was the one to receive the news, and thought it was because of the new singer and his "different style." Joe denied it, and said he had his reasons. The band was now down a memeber, again. After the singer was aware of the news, he then also left because of the roadblock he now would have faced with his new band. Back to where the three Whitby boys were in January, they began recording a few songs on the weekend of November 12th 2004. Chee quit the band after recording, so Anthony and Alex decided that they should call it quits. Only a few of the songs were completly finished when recorded. Finishing the rest is undecided.
