LAB WRITE UP RUBRICS

 

Problem:

3—Problem must be in the form of a question.  Must also be the proper question aligned with the objective.

2—Problem in the form of a question.  However, question is not logically aligned with the objective of the lab.  Or Problem not in the form of a question but logically aligned with the objective of the lab.

1—Problem not in the form of a question.  Problem not logically aligned with objective.

 

Hypothesis:

4—Uses if and then.  Answers the question on the problem.

3—Does not use if and then but answers the question of the problem.

2—Uses if and then but does not answer the question of the problem.

1—Neither uses if and then nor answer the question of the problem.

 

Materials and Methods

4—All materials and every step of method written down.  Method follows a sequencing order.

3—All materials written down.  Not all methods follow the logical order.

2—Missing 3 or more materials and methods steps.

1—Materials and Methods mostly incomplete.

 

Results:

5—All chart complete and correctly filled out.  Graphing was correct as well as summary of results.

4—All chart complete but graphing and/or summary a bit flawed.

3—All chart complete but graphing and/or summary incomplete.

2—Chart incomplete and graphing and/or summary partially incomplete.

1—Chart incomplete and graphing and/or summary mostly incomplete.

 

Conclusion:

4—Stated whether hypothesis was right or wrong followed by a summary of the conclusion questions.  Summary must be in a paragraph form.

3—Did not state what the hypothesis was but only implied it.  Wrote the summary of the conclusion questions in a paragraph form.

2—Stated whether the hypothesis was right or wrong with conclusion questions answered but not summarized.

1—Student only stated whether hypothesis was right or wrong with no conclusion questions answered.

 

Final Lab Grade

18-20:  Excellent Job:  Student understood and met objective of lab work.  Displayed mastery of reasoning and  knowledge of scientific method and scientific concept.  Grade = A.

16-17:  Above Average:  Student understood and met objective of lab work.  Knowledge of scientific method and lab write up is above average, but could be improved.  Showed a few weaknesses with a one or a few steps with the scientific method.  Grade = B.

14-15:  Average Work.  Student followed the steps of the scientific method but with little or no mastery.  There are lots of ambiguity and vagueness in the lab write up.  Student appears confused on the lesson as well as the steps of the scientific method.  Grade = C.

12-13:  Below average work.  Student lacked knowledge of both scientific method and concept of lesson.  Student displayed little understanding and failed to meet the objective.  Grade = D.

0-11:   Student lab work mostly incomplete.  Spent little time and gained very little or no knowledge on the scientific method and scientific concept.
