Dear Parents/Guardians,
We welcome you and your child to Vicente San Agustin Benavente Middle School for the school year 2003-2004. We look forward to a collaborative relationship with yourselves and your child. We have high hopes and expectations for delivering a quality education for your child. By working cooperatively we can promote excellence, provide support, and prepare your child for life.
Our goal is to develop our students to their full potential. An open communication between teachers and parents will help us achieve this goal. We will send you a student progress report of your child’s performance in our class at least once a quarter. We will also communicate daily through student journals. Your child is required to copy the posted objectives, seatwork, and homework. We ask you go over those objectives with them and initial them daily. Your child will then show us the initials the following day.
Besides checking their daily journals, there are other methods to actively involve yourself in your child’s education. Here are a few suggestions:
Become a guest speaker.
Review homework with your child.
Provide an environment conducive to learning.
Encourage your child to learn.
Help your child with time management.
Participate in activities that enhance the
objectives of your child’s classes.
Visit the Incredible Dolphins Website in a
weekly basis.
We also have class rules that will provide a safe environment for your
child and their fellow classmates. Our
team emphasizes the following rules:
Follow
all school rules.
Come to class prepared (books, paper, pen/pencils,
notebook) and ready to learn.
Raise your hand and wait to be called before
speaking.
Basketball (with trash) is to be played only
during gym.
Neither teasing nor horseplaying will be
tolerated.
Remain in your seat unless given permission to
leave.
Be attentive and stay on task.
Respect your classmates and their belongings.
Always follow teachers’ instructions.
Besides the classroom rules, we also have daily procedures that your
child must follow. These procedures will
establish a routine to maximize instructional time. The procedures are as follows:
1.
Students are to line up quietly outside before
entering the classroom.
2. Pencils are to be sharpened before student sits down.
3. Attend to bathroom needs before entering class. It is up to the discretion of the teacher to allow the student to use the restroom during instructional time.
4. Students are to drop off all admit slips and parent notes at teachers’ desk before taking their seats.
5. Immediately after sitting down, students are to copy their class objectives and student homework in their team journal and wait until the teacher verifies the parent’s initials.
6. Hold all trash until the bell rings.
7. Makeup work will be allowed to students only with excused absence. It is the responsibility of the student to check the make up work during non-instructional time.
8. In the event of an emergency, follow teachers’ directions.
9. The teacher dismisses the student, not the bell.
The violation of these rules or procedures will result in the following consequences:
1. First offense – Recorded warning.
2. Second offense – Recorded warning and punishment duty, phone call to parent.
3. Third offense – All of the above plus team teachers and student conference, and team detention.
4. Fourth offense – All of the above including discipline referral.
5. Fifth offense – All of the above including a request for parent teacher conference.
6. Sixth + offense – All of the above including a request for parent shadowing.
Attached to this team letter are the team teachers’ subject syllabi. These syllabi are brief overviews and generalizations of the topics to be covered throughout the entire school year. Please review them briefly with your child.
The team will host a web-site dedicated to our team. The web site will include progress reports, weekly attendance, tests announcements, grades, photo gallery, and other team related events. I am requesting your permission to allow school related pictures of your child to be posted on the internet. The URL address will soon be announced
