A DISTORTED VIEW OF STAR WARS PRESENTED BY TK
First off, here's my history with Star Wars, as inspired by Debo's thread. I don't exactly remember how old I was when I first saw Star Wars. I was young enough to be distraught when Vader cut off Luke's hand, but old enough not to cry. I just remember it was a long time ago (...in a galaxy far far away? geez, lemme stop that). Anyway, I was introduced to this wonderful world by my dad, who brought home the original trilogy one night from the rental down the street. He popped in the tape, and the whole family watched...with fewer bathroom and snack breaks than usual. I was fascinated by the blue (my favorite color) lightsabers - I had to have one. I also had to have a Chewie, but my brother was allergic, so of course I didn't get one. I didn't really understand the Force, but I tried Vader's patented move on my brother (what kid doesn't?). It didn't work.
Let me get back on track here. The next night we watched Empire. I was devastated when Luke's hand was hacked off, and I know my brother was too, as he crawled up on the couch under my mom's 'over'-protective arm and cried. And I'm sure my mouth dropped in horror as Vader proclaimed Luke as his son. It just hit harder and harder. That just...couldn't be! "He's lying!" I insisted, looking to my dad with a questioning face. He just told me to keep watching (he's never one to go to for spoilers). "Why'd he chop off his hand if he's his father!?" I couldn't understand that at all - guess my parents aren't quite as evil as I though, eh? Yeah, okay then. I was highly unsatisfied with the ending (kids don't appreciate originality - they want closure), so my dad let us watch the beginning of Jedi to satisfy our growing appetite for Star Wars.
...looks like i'm about to reach my limit of non-laziness and somewhat coherent rambling, so i'll get back to ya on this one...
I guess you'll be wanting to return to Earth now
