Inters go second(9/5/04)
Intermediates have gone second in the league after a hard fought win against Thomas Davis in Naul on Sunday. The first half was a scrappy affair with little to seperate the sides until Thomas Davis struck with a goal just before half-time after Kevin Doyle and Paul Cullen had kept the Mhuire within touching distance. Clann Mhuire had an excellent 10 minute spell just after the break in which they drew level with the visitors with points from Doyle and Philip Whyte. Thomas Davis then went on the offensive and were it not for some staunch defending from Cathal Rooney the game may have crept out of reach. The Mhuire then got their act together and managed to put together some meaningful attacks which resulted in Philip Whyte rattling the roof of the net with a rocket of a goal in the dying minutes to leave the Mhuire 3 points up. The match looked over but Thomas Davis refused to give up and somehow managed to scramble the ball over the goal line to force an equaliser. Now a draw seemed on the cards but the Mhuire managed to regain their composure and mount an excellent attack which resulted in Paul Cullen calmly slotting the ball over the bar to claim an unlikely victory. Final Score: Clann Mhuire 1-8 Thomas Davis 2-4 Scorers: Kevin Doyle 0-4, Philip Whyte 1-1, Paul Cullen 0-3. Man of the Match: Brian Kiely.
Juniors get back to winning ways(8/5/04)
The juniors battled hard on Saturday to claim a victory against a useful Crumlin side in Naul. John Rooney was a tower of strength at midfield dominating proceedings. Crumlin got off to the quicker start going 5 points to nothing in the lead before the Mhuire replied. But reply they did as they raced into a half-time lead. The lead was traded all through the second half and it was left to a late Stephen Tormey goal to secure the points for Clann Mhuire.
