UFC 66: Liddell keeps belt, Ortiz concedes

Having climbed back up the ranks after losing his title in 2003, former light heavyweight champion Tito “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Ortiz was, undoubtedly in as good of shape as he could ever hope to be in his long-awaited rematch with Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell last night before a sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas.
It still wasn’t good enough.
After reeling off three impressive victories since his return at UFC 59, Ortiz was confident and focused enough to give the 37-year-old, dominant champion a better showing than their first encounter that left him beaten on the canvas in the second round...
This time, he was left beaten on the canvas in the third.
Ortiz opted not to wait long for a takedown attempt and, after a small exchange of strikes and leg kicks in the opening minute, Ortiz shot for a takedown from the outside, missing badly. With his hand up and Liddell’s, as usual, at his waist, a motivated Ortiz landed his biggest punch of the round in the form of an overhand right just before the three minute mark. Read more!
