Second Marsh Educational Services

Second Marsh Educational Services (site map, for useful marking purposes)

Started by four biology students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, we aim to provide elementary school educators with supplements curriculum that focus on conservation.

Using the Ontario Elementary school Science curriculum, we have developed programs that integrate the learning about the unique properties of Second Marsh in Oshawa with current educational goals.

SMES works with the organization “Friends of Second Marsh” to evaluate programs and design outings to Second Marsh to further enhance their educational value.

SMES provides lesson materials and interactive activities that make learning about Second Marsh and conservation fun!

Current Projects

The Classroom Plant Propagation Program has social importance, as well as ecological as is designed to improve the aesthetic value of the Second Marsh as well as being educationally and ecologically significant. Even though it is a protected area, Second marsh has walking trail open to the public for their enjoyment of natural beauty.

By taking action to preserve the wetland habitat we can ensure that it will be there for the pleasure future generations.
