Nova Scotia Community College - Screen Arts Program

If you've ever watched the credits roll at the end of a movie, you know it takes a lot of people to make a production happen. In this two-year intensive program you cover the entire film production cycle from initial concept through to distribution within a challenging, hands-on learning environment. You learn script development, set design and construction, film and video production, editing, set etiquette and more. Your challenge is to design, produce, manage and complete productions in a creative and collaborative crew environment.

Upon successful completion of this two-year program, you have a strong foundation in all aspects of film and video production and are able to function as a reliable and informed crew member.

Maybe you've been inspired by the recent explosion of 2D and 3D digitally-animated broadcast and entertainment animation. Do you have a story and character of your own to develop? Perhaps you want to apply these same animation skills to web development or the video game world. Either way, the Digital Animation program can be your path into the industry.

Principles covered include classical animation, layout and design, visual communications, story telling, storyboarding, and character animation. You'll soon be pursuing a career path with the solid foundation of training you need to adapt in this always-changing technical field of animation.

 

Nova Scotia Community College - Radio and Televison Arts

Do you want to work in the fast-paced world of radio and television? Do you see yourself on the street, camera on your shoulder, capturing the latest event? On the air, introducing the latest hit? Or preparing to interview one of the latest newsmakers? This program will prepare you for a career both behind the equipment and in the public eye (or ear).

In the first year you get a taste of all the functions going on in a Radio or TV station. You learn the theory behind how a station works, plus get a lot of hands-on time operating the cameras, microphones, lighting, editing and other technical equipment. You hone your writing skills, scripting ads and promo copy, producing those scripts, and researching and writing interview outlines for both media.

As the world embraces new technologies, IT and related technical knowledge and skills will become even more important. Nova Scotia Community College - Recording Arts

This program is for people who love the spirit and science of sound. In this program you learn to capture sound in a recording studio or on a live set, to create sound effects for movies and television shows and to bring sound to life in a concert or nightclub environment. We have a lot of knobs and wires - it's a very technical program - but we foster an artistic environment, too, and encourage you to explore and experiment.
