Soccer Sensation

Kara Lang!

All I can say is wow! She is a sensational 16 year old high school student that is indeed the youngest woman ever to have played on the Canadian National Team. She was amazing at the recent 2003 Woman’s World cup, and we should expect to see many more great things from her.

Profile:

Position: Midfield & forward Height: 5-9 (175cm) Date Of Birth: October 22, 1986 Birth Place: Calgary, Alberta Raised: Oakville, Ontario Jersey Number with Whitecaps: #25 Jersey Number with National Team:#15

Lang made her national team debut at the age of 15, on March 1, 2002 against Scotland at the Algarve Cup, becoming the youngest player ever to be capped for Canada. She scored her first goal two days later against Wales. She was one of the stars of Canada's silver-medal-winning team at the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championships in Edmonton, scoring three goals in six games. She was also a key player for Canada at the Gold Cup, scoring all four of her goals in a single game, a 9-0 defeat of Jamaica in Victoria on November 1, 2002. Currently Lang is a Grade 11 student at St. Thomas Aquinas in Oakville, Ontario.

Some familiar faces on the National team that were on the U-19 team with Lang were Sasha Andrews, Andrea Neil, Christine Sinclair, and Brittany Timko.

"Kara Lang is one of the most exciting young players in the game today. She's the sort of player who can make things happen, with her skill, her strength, and her powerful shooting ability. And she’s a fan favorite. She has tremendous potential and is definitely someone to keep a close eye on." says Canadian Head Coach Even Pellerud proudly about Lang.
