FORT PIERCE -- A 14-year-old girl from the New York City borough of Queens died Sunday afternoon after a man lost control of his sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95 and plunged through a thicket of trees, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Michael Nobrega, 49, also of Queens, told FHP he was southbound when his Chevrolet Avalanche veered off the highway near Orange Avenue west of Fort Pierce, trooper Chris Thompson said. Nobrega was driving with 40-year-old Ishwardei Hart and three girls. Nirvana Nobrega, 14, was killed, Thompson said. The other passengers, while not seriously injured, were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.
