The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

1x Senior Grand Champion 8/05

Charity is a really pretty, stylish doe with an extremely sweet personality. Charity has wonderful width and depth throughout, sharp, tight withers and a beautiful head and ear set. This doe has an outstanding udder with one of the highest and roundest rear-udder arches we have seen on a Nigerian, along with an extremely long side attachment and ideal teat placement and size. She does not like to be shown in milk which was a huge disapointment knowing how nice she really is. Every time we take her in the ring she roaches up her back and walks stiff in the rear which is not her usual natural shape or gait. Her problem appears to be sensitivity to a full udder. Maybe she will get used to being shown someday but until then she can keep producing beautiful babies. Charity's litter sister MCH ZZ Faith easily finished her championship. Charity was milked into a 8-month lactation this year. Charity did it again with her fourth set of quads in 09. She has never had anything less than triplets. Retired

Tie is a combination of power, strength, style and correctness throughout, plus outstanding genetics, flashy color and blue eyes! He shows ideal length, width, depth, angularity and levelness over the topline. He has an exceptional front-end assembly with the most upstanding stature and tight, sharp, smoothly blended withers. As a seven-year-old Tie's feet and legs are still in perfect condition. He is an extremely masculine buck with more wrinkles than a Shar Pei, yet he is quiet, and gentle, with an easy going temperament. Tie's Dam Apachey has gone Grand Champion 5x, Best Udder 5x and 1x Champion Challenge winner. Unfortunately Tie has not managed to settle any does for the past couple years so it looks like he has gone into retirement. We realize this can happen with bucks his age. He will remain on the farm and just be our stinky pet from now on. He still thinks he is hot stuff. Tie lived a wonderful LONG life at just a month short of 17. Our first Nigerian Dwarf. He is a goat we will never forget.

Lady finished her ADGA championship in 1 day at a 3 ring show with 38 milking does and only 10 days fresh. Photos taken on show day 10 days fresh. Shown in champion challenge at Stanwood Lady also took best of breed in all 3 rings & BOB again at Grays Harbor Fair. She has been shown 7 times as a two-year-old and has been BOB each time shown. Lady passed away from complications from trying to deliver a huge single doeling. Will never know why she waited 10 days beyond her due date and allowed the kid to get so large.

Unfortunately Razz had a late kidding that resulted in a very large kid we couldn't get out at kidding time so she had a c-section to save her and the brother of her larger kid. We are retaining her son Doc Crawford(named after the vet who delivered him)we feel Crawford should be the buck to improve teat size when needed. This doe has a fantastic udder that is high, wide and glued on all over! Unfortunately she got a large mass of scar tissue near her fore udder area as visible in these photos due to her c-section. Razz got bred by Playboy by accident during the Summer and kidded perfectly this time without assistance. Her doeling by Playboy is being retained in our herd. When shown this year Razz has always been at or near the top of her class. Razz went reserve GCH and best udder at the 09 state fair all while being milked into a 9-month lactation!

Tease is a doe we had admired for years and now finally had the opportunity to add her to the herd this Fall. Tease's littermate brother The Full Monty also lives here at Poppy Patch Farm. Tease is still a beautiful doe and standing the test of time even as she turned six this Fall. She has taken a break from the show ring for awhile but we plan to get her back out there again to collect more ribbons in 06. Tease kidded January 25th and all we can say about her 6-year-old udder is WOW! Her udder has not changed a bit from as it was when she was only two.
Sadly Tease will not be showing again in 06 after a tragic battle the end of April with mastitis which led to a serious bacterial pneumonia infection, she has been dried off. We are just extremely happy her life and her udder were spared from this illness. Poor Tease is dry again now in 07 by no fault of her own. This time she came down with a very rare case of metritis 1 week before her due date and had to be delivered early by C-section. Problem was her doeling died after having gotten her cord twisted around her neck. Fortunately we did get a healthy baby boy who will be retained. This girl's misfortunes continued in 08 with a ruptured uterus at kidding due to the way scar tissue healed from her c- section the year before. Again very rare condition. We lost her single buckling this year. Her uterus was removed due to the rupture and she is now officially happy and retired. We will love her and spoil her rotten for the rest of her life. Sadly she was never able to be shown even once the entire time we have had her due to her many problems. If she were shown I would bet she would have been a MCH/CH easily. We will treasure her relatives still in use in our herd breeding program. Tease passed away peacefully of old age. This grand old lady lived a very full life after nearly loosing her several times years earlier.

A devastating loss. Angel Face had to be put down due to complications following her second-freshening. She would have been one of our most promising young milkers this year. She leaves behind her yearling daughter "Kisses" by Honeymoon Bay and her 2013 doeling "Angel's Keepsake" by Jiminy Cricket.

Sweet Pea

Hard to believe this is the only photo we have of Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea was born a tiny 1 pound runt so she was raised in the house and spoiled. When she grew up she remained small( only around 18") she was never registered and we had never planned to breed her due to being on the smaller side. Her sire was also small and produced smaller kids which was the reason he was moved on after one year and no kids were kept for breeding purposes. Cadbury had gotten loose one day and we didn't realize Sweet Pea had been bred until just a couple of weeks before kidding. As we feared she was too small to deliver the kids even though correctly positioned. She had an emergency c-section at 2AM on a Saturday morning. The two buck kids were lost by the time of the c-section and we lost Sweet Pea the next day. I held her as she took her first breath at birth and there holding her again as she took her last breath which is always one of the most challenging parts of raising animals. Her life cut too short serves as a lesson as to why Nigerians should not be bred for smaller size. 18" and smaller for a Nigerian is not a safe breeding size and I would not encourage breeding does who are within that size or smaller... it is a setup for disaster and heartbreak. Sweet Pea was the most quiet, gentle and easy-going goat I have ever known. Will miss her sweet face at the barn door every morning.

Sharky is a really powerful yet feminine little doe. She has wonderful width and depth, the softest dairy skin texture, and an excellent mammary system being well attached all round with great capacity, and easy to milk teats. She could benefit from better rear leg angulation and a bit more length of body. She is the dam of one of our favorite does- Poppy Patch BT Thumbelina. Sharky had been sold and has now returned after 4 years at the age of 8 to live out the rest of her days on our farm. She was left as an only goat after a herd sold out and nobody wanted her due to her age so she was happy to come home. Her ADGA papers were "lost" when we purchased her back so it is doubtful we will ever breed her again but at least she came home to live out her days happy. Sharky is now Retired

Rebel comes from some of the best genetics around in the breed. He is very correct overall being very long, sharp, deep-bodied, flat-boned, and very very small in size. His first milking daughters both here and in other herds have been doing very well in the show ring and milk pail. We don't know of any other Nigerian buck to throw the consistency in MSL that this guy does making him worth his weight in gold. One thing I have seen looking at so many Nigerians is that this breed as a whole needs a lot of work in that area. His first permanent champion daughter MCH Castle Rock Sky Lupine owned by the Castle Rock herd has done very well showing in CA earning her MCH and star in milk production as well as going best udder 11 times! Sky's litter sister Castle Rock California Poppy also earned her milk production star last year. He now has 2 permanent champion daughters in our herd! CH Poppy Patch RC Semi Sweet and CH Poppy Patch RC Poppy Seed as well as several others with championship legs. Sadly the 2009 breeding season will likely be Rebel's last. When we took bucks this year for collection we took Rebel along again. His semen quality was worse than last year when he was unable to be collected. He also settled very few does by live breeding so far this year. Semen processor says he appears to just be going sterile which some bucks do at his age. Usually genetic so nothing we can do. Will keep trying him with a few does... kids will be very limited. Thankfully we have retained two beautiful well-bred Rebel sons so far and many beautiful daughters. Deceased

Thumbelina is very flashy, refined, feminine, and graceful. She has outstanding general appearance, wonderful skin texture, levelness, and angularity. We were pleased with her nice rear leg set being an improvement from her dam in that area. Her udder has an attractive shape with excellent attachments, smooth fore and a high rear. This is an udder so socked on it is never going anywhere no matter how many freshenings. Even with the limited showing we did this year she managed to get 1 Senior GCH and and Best in Show over all the big girls! Now retired.

(DS-Ponders End ZZ Top/DD-Esperanza Evening Primrose)

Scamp is not a flashy type of guy as far as coloring which dosen't bother us a bit. What he does have is wonderful conformation, solid genetics and that sweet friendly personality so common with Charity's kids. He has never been shown so not clipped for this photo. His litter sister is Poppy Patch RC Poppy Seed. It breaks my heart to say this sweet boy left us way too soon. We lost Scamp to urinary callculi at the age of only two. As it turns out his only daughters ever are our beloved Poppy Patch SC Sweet Baaaby and Poppy Patch SC Pollyanna. Scampie will be missed but never forgotten.
