Ve-Lin's Lady In Whyte

All About Lady

In Loving Memory of Lady
June 4th 1990 to July 14th, 2002

Lady was my 12 yr old White Shepherd. As a young pup and young adult she was independent, free spirited and loved to play ball. As she grew older she slowed down, not running so far and became more loveable and wanting more attention. She had a wonderfully soft white coat that asked to be touched. Her soulmate was our male White Shepherd Stormer. Together they made quite the couple; playing, grooming and courting.

When Lady was two we went back to her breeder and with their help joined her with one of their males to produce a litter of 9! Lady proved to be the best mom!! She never seemed to run out of patience for their needs and activity level . . . well, maybe once they were much older. She reallllly didn't want to get back in there with their squirming and pushing and scratching. If I had been a puppy, I would've wanted her for MY mom!

Lady's Family. . .

Lady was always tender and gentle with my daughter Carly. Right before the puppies were born, Carly was messing with Ladys belly and must've hurt her. Lady bolted upright, looked at Carly like "oh, it's only you" and laid back down to rest. I never had to worry about "Ladys size" making her a threat to my baby. In fact, she was the best babysitter and protector I could've had! Whether playing "can I have my toy" with Carly, or sharing daddys fries - Lady was a treasure, and such a joy to watch!

I'll put my paw on it so it won't fall!

Waiting patiently for Carly to give her the toy!

What a pretty pose!

Who's gonna let go first?

In Older days. . .

As Lady aged she showed signs of arthritis in her front right elbow and in the one hip was hip dysplasia. She never seemed to mind that it slowed her down a bit..... as long as someone would play ball. She'd be your friend forever if only you'd just throw the ball. (OR stick!) But soon the time would come that her activity had to be limited to prevent excessive limping, despite her spirit and willingness to play. Her soulmate was euthanized on July 8th with cancer (along with bad hips and knees. He was from a "backyard breeder" you see.) The next evening we were to find a lump in her chest and the next day was told it was cancer. A very vascular tumor that could take her at any moment. On July 14th, she went to join Stormer in the meadows of Rainbow Bridge. To lose them both so closely together was almost more than we could bear; however for them - it was best. Following is a poem I've written for her that I wanted to share with all. It's my way of being able to share HER and show you how wonderful she really was. I hope you enjoy it.

Our Greatest Blessing

She came into our lives one day,
so very long ago.
How much she'd come to mean to us
we'd soon begin to know.

A playmate for our special boy -
and one day became his love.
To us our greatest blessing,
a gift from God above.

She grew into a beauty
in body, mind and soul.
A spirit so free and lovely,
none better would we know.

To strangers she was leery,
she'd keep a watchful eye.
The family became her 'charges',
she'd let no harm get by.

The years began to take its toll
and she began to slow.
But still her undying devotion
was something we would know.

Her last 6 days were spent with me,
inseparable we became.
I'd gaze into her lovely eyes
and softly call her name.

My heart and soul were one with her,
our love so deep and true.
Such joy I felt to have her near,
I know she felt it too.

She's gone now and as my heart aches
for her I know it's best.
She gave her all right to the end
and now it's time to rest.

Her memories I'll carry with me
until the day arrives
that we can reunite once more
within Gods lovely skies.
