Sunny - Home Alone

Written by: Terri Vest

One day while Sunny was home alone
he thought to call grandma on the phone.
He listened for the phone to ring
so he could ask to come hear her sing.

She had a voice like a Meadowlark
that often sang happily in the park.
One of his favorite things to do
was hear her sing Winnie the Pooh.

When grandma mouse picked up the phone
and heard that Sunny was all alone
she invited him to come right over
and said they'd make it a sleepover!

Now, grandma wasn't far away
but he didn't take any time to play
for mom said he was not to roam
whenever he was away from home!

On the way, there were many sights
for Sunny to see, to his delight.
Down the path & across the way
were a couple of chipmunks playing croquet.

Looking up towards the sun
he saw a monkey having some fun.
Playing and swinging from limb to limb,
then dropped to the pond for a quick swim.

Thinking the water could cool the heat
that he was feeling in his hot feet,
he stepped to the edge and dipped his toes
till the monkey swam by and splashed his clothes!

Getting back on the path to continue on
there in his way was a baby fawn
who had big brown eyes and a quizzical look.
She was looking for mom, who was down by the brook.

Sunny asked her if she was lost
or if she knew just where she'd crossed.
She smiled and nodded as she turned to go,
finding her way back to mom down below.

As Sunny approached grandmas house
in the window he saw grandma mouse.
Seeing her made him feel glad
that she was the grandma that he had!

Of all the places that he could be
and all the sights that he could see
the one that made him feel most blessed
was being with grandma and loving her best!
